IVY ROWLEY HORNE 1917 - 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother on August 17, 2012. A lifelong Winnipeg resident, Ivy was the first born child and only daughter of the late John and Nellie McMurray. She helped care for her six brothers Sydney (twin), George, Douglas, Jack, Raymond and Melville and was adored by them. George, Raymond and Melville are left to cherish her memory. Always an A student, Ivy attended Business College and worked as a secretary retiring from the RCMP's D Division. A fabulous seamstress, she also taught sewing classes at night school. Ivy and Rod worshipped at Gordon-King Memorial United Church where she served as President of the United Church Women and was a Life Member. A tireless volunteer, in retirement, Ivy was active with the Auxiliary and Board of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Each winter she and Rod enjoyed a month in Victoria visiting their large circle of friends. From childhood, she spent enjoyable summers at the Horne family's cottage at Matlock. Ivy loved her role as matriarch of our large extended family and hosted Thanksgiving at the cottage for many years, a tradition which continues. Ivy was married to her loving husband Rod for almost 66 years. Ivy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children David (Dianne), Elizabeth, Jennifer (Dave) and her grandchildren Allan (Kim), Neil (Claire), Michael (Lindsay) and Andrea. She was the proud great-grandmother of Kate, John, Alex and Ariana. The family thanks Ivy's dedicated home care workers and the staff at Kildonan House and the Golden Door Geriatric Centre for their compassionate care. A celebration of her life will take place at Gordon-King Memorial Church at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2012. Elevator access is available at the side entrance. If you wish a donation may be made in Ivy's memory to The Alzheimer Society 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2 or online at www.alzheimer.mb.ca . Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am sad to know that Ivy has passed away and offer my deepest sympathy to the entire family on your loss. I knew you mom and dad (Rod) in the 70's and 80's when Rod and I worked at Acme and Laidlaw. I will always remember them both with great fondness for their warmth and generosity but above all their gentle and kind manner. Sincerely, Monique and Family - Posted by: Monique Graboski (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2012
