GERARDUS (GERALD) FIJN October 2, 1930 - August 22, 2012 Gerald was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the youngest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents Pieter and Hendrika, and brother Henk. Gerald is survived by his loving wife Mathilda, daughter Gina (Tom) Garrett, son Peter, grandchildren Carla (George) Bouchard, Joanne (Cory) Huclack, and great-grandchildren Danae, Taylor and Jordanne. In the Netherlands, he will be missed by his sisters Han (Henk) and Greet, four nieces, and friends Nel and Ruurd. In 1957, he married Mathilda Verhoeven, and together they raised two children. In 1968, the family came to Canada and settled in Gimli, MB, where he and Mathilda started a music business that ran successfully for 28 years. In 1996, he and Mathilda moved to Westbank, B.C., for their retirement. In 2004, they moved to Winnipeg, MB, to be closer to their immediate family. He will be missed by many, especially friends Gudrun and Sigurd in Vancouver, B.C. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, Dr. Leylek and nurse Jennifer, and to the caring and compassionate staff of St. Boniface Hospital's Palliative Care Unit.
