RUSSELL EDWARD MATTERN March 25, 1958 - August 25, 2012 On August 25, 2012, at Victoria General Hospital, the light that was Russell Edward Mattern dimmed and faded away. He leaves to cherish his memory his special friend Val (Foofy) Meurs and their beloved cats June-June and Peachy; sister Judy (Don); brothers Bill (Tammy), Brad (Karen) and Rick (Donna); and many nephews and nieces who have special memories of time spent with Russell. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Helen, and his cats Nap-Nap and Junior. Russell was employed at Life's Journey providing support to individuals affected by F.A.S.D. He was respected by staff and loved by the individuals he worked with. Russell spent many enjoyable summers with Val at the lake. His lifelong hobby was playing his drums and jamming with his buddies. We all miss him dearly. In compliance with Russell's wishes there will be no funeral service. We invite family and friends to gather to celebrate Russell's life on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a light lunch at 15 Algonquin Ave., Winnipeg.

  • I always enjoyed Russell's company and easy going nature when I would see him frequently at Ray's over the years. Dug the music when I would run in to Russell jamming at a party. He really loved to see people happy whether out was from music or his kindness. What a special day for my son it was when Russell gave him lots of time with the big cats. It was such a thrill for him and Russell's great pleasure in this abundantly evident. He'll be missed by many. My condolences to all the folks he leaves behind. - Posted by: Jim Flight () on: Sep 01, 2012
