Date of Passing: Aug 24, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA DUTKA (nee ANDRUSYSHEN) 1916 - 2012 Peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital, Olga Dutka, aged 95 years, passed away. God provides strength for those who need it and that inner strength was evident in Olga's life. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her absence will be felt deeply. Olga leaves behind in sorrow and in loving memory of her warmth, kindness and friendship her daughter June, son Michael (Jean), grandchildren Michael (Amber), Alana (Blaine) Pickering, great-grandchildren Aidan and Nicolas, sister-in-law Rose Andrusyshyn, niece Deb (Ivan) Olson and numerous friends. Olga was predeceased by her parents Michael (1945) and Francisca (1965) Andrusyszyn, husband Michael Philip (1971), brothers Dr. Constantine Henry Andrusyshen (1983), Stanley Andrews (1967), Rudolph Andrews (1986), Adolph Andrusyshyn (1993) and niece Carol (Andrews) Ryan (2011). Olga was born in Winnipeg, November 9, 1916, the fourth child of Michael and Francisca. She attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School (now Immaculate Heart of Mary School) and St. John's High School and married Michael Philip Dutka on August 16, 1941. She resided in North-End Winnipeg all her life and devoted her time to her family and church. Olga lived a full and contented life enjoying each day as a gift from God. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Her quick mind and quiet sense of humour endured to the end. Last year in recognition of her dedicated service for 65 years as a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League at St. Nicholas Church, Olga was awarded a certificate of merit and a lapel pin which she wore proudly. She found her greatest joy in her grandchildren Michael and Alana and great-grandchildren Aidan and Nicolas and cherished the time spent with them. Olga enjoyed her three trips to Europe (especially Rome) and trips to the U.S.A. (Las Vegas and Hawaii) and within Canada (Toronto, Vancouver and the Maritime Provinces). In her younger years she crocheted prize-winning tablecloths and bedspreads that have become treasured family keepsakes. She belonged to the seniors' clubs at both Blessed Virgin Mary Church and St. Nicholas Church and looked forward to socializing with her friends. For over 20 years, Olga's independent spirit and strong will allowed her to live out her life in her own apartment at St. Mary the Protectress Villa for senior residents. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. George Balko, and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital 6A (South) and 4E for their dedicated, professional care given to Mother over the past six weeks. Also, a thank you is extended to Maria Patel, Mother's hairstylist, who, for many years, came for her and drove her home after her weekly appointment. A Divine Liturgy to celebrate Olga's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 31, at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue followed by Panakhyda. Olga will be laid to rest beside her husband Michael Philip in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Dmytryshyn, Michael C. Dutka, Richard Dziedzic, Blaine Pickering, Richard Suszynski and Robert Wiwchar. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennie Nitchuk and Nadia Dmytryshyn. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Olga Dutka may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church Improvement Fund or a charity of your choice. Now, O Lord, to the soul of your servant, Olga, who has fallen asleep, grant rest in a place of light, a place of verdure, and a place of tranquility from which pain, sorrow and mourning have fled. My sincere sympathies to the whole family. June and Michael, too bad I cannot be there to give you a big hug. Your mother was a very special lady indeed- as you have said in the obituary. She was not only beautiful in appearance- in heart and soul. I remember her always smiling, never being negative about things, always making one feel welcome in her home- and best of all, her delicious bakings. She will be missed. - Posted by: Vera Kostecki (Friend- from Toronto) on: Aug 29, 2012
