ASHLEY ANNE SCHLAG March 12, 1995 - August 28, 2012 PRECIOUS It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Ashley on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the age of 17 years. Ashley will live on in the hearts of her parents Graham and Nicole, her little sister Madison, grandparents Sharon and Elroy Jr. (deceased) Schlag, Gerry and Noreen Pope, great-grandfather Andrew Paterson, aunts and uncles and cousins, Donna and Dale McLeod (Ashley's godfather), Greg, Julie, Emma and Bradly Schlag, Blair, Cathy, Gage and Kristi Pope. She will also be deeply missed by her godmother Brenda Enns (Scott), her special BFF Dakotah and her many other BFFs too numerous to mention, you know who you all are. She was also predeceased by her great-grandparents Nora and Mel Johnson, Jerry and Ernie Pope and Gertrude Paterson. Ashley attended school at Springfield Collegiate Institute in OakBank and Glenlawn Collegiate where she made honour roll for Grade 11. She was a gifted goalie with tremendous promise. She played for OakBank Soccer, Winnipeg Southend United, and the Manitoba Provincial Team. In 2008 she helped Team Eastman win gold at the Manitoba Games in Carmen. She was named player of the game in the Manitoba Soccer Association's provincial championships in 2009. Ashley was also so proud to be chosen to represent Manitoba in two national championships in Sydney, Nova Scotia and Lavel, Quebec in 2009. In 2011/2012 she was invited to join the Regional Training Centre soccer program at Glenlawn Collegiate. She was so dedicated to this sport that she loved, training an hour and a half before school, on weekends, and taking additional goalie training, never losing sight of her goal for a soccer scholarship. Ashley was full of life, greeting everyone with her amazing smile and making friends wherever she went. Her free spirit and silliness balanced with her serious commitment to achieving her goals made her an incredibly special young woman. So beautiful and talented, yet so humble, appreciative and hardworking, a rare combination in a person so young. Her compassion for others was boundless. She just wanted everyone to be happy. She loved her time volunteering with seniors and she had a gift for connecting with them and brightening their day. Ashley enjoyed spending time at the lake with her family and many close friends. Family was very important to her and she would spend hours creating beautiful videos to celebrate them. A special part of her family were her pets and because she cared about animals and their welfare so much, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Additionally, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in Ashley's honour via Soccer Manitoba: Manitoba Soccer Association, 211 Chancellor Matheson Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 1Z2 - in memory of Ashley Schlag. A celebration of Ashley's life will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road at Springfield Road in Winnipeg. Nicole, Graham and Madison would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to their family and friends for all their love and support. Ashley, in the end you were chosen to play on the ultimate all star team, making glorious saves forever... She's got the moves like Schlagger Seasons Funeral Chapel - OakBank
