MELVIN DALE MCLENNAN It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Melvin Dale McLennan on August 22, 2012. Mel leaves behind his two sons Troy (Lois) and Tyler (Christine) and his grandchildren: Reid, Derek, Riley, Connor and Coral. Mel came from a very large family. He had 19 brothers and sisters, some have left this world before him and others remain to carry on the McLennan family legacy. Mel was born on June 28, 1938 in Portage la Prairie, MB to John and Sarah McLennan. He worked in the retail sector in various positions for F.W. Woolworth's, MacLeods and Saan Stores. Later in life, he pursued formal training as a chef and obtained his Red Seal designation. Mel was always willing to help someone in need; through wisdom, listening and giving from the heart. Mel has requested donations be made in his memory to The Winnipeg Foundation, Nourishing Potential Fund. A private family celebration was held in his honour in his home town, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My name is Larry. I'm just an ordinary old man. Me and my wife, Trudy, we live in the same building of Mel, our dearest friend, that we gonna miss forever. I think I could speak for major people here, about our loving Mel. Mel was a sweet old man. Always in a good mood. Friendly, and always ready to chat with his friends. But now the feeling changed. We are missing Mel so deep here. It's not the same, now. Mel was the spirit of the place, and now an emptyness fill it up our hearts. Mel was one of us. He was kind, polite, happy, and always with a smile for his friends. Mel was a good conversation. Mel was a special man. In all senses. Mel was a guiding light for who needs an advice. Mel was a good man. But it was not just his goodness that defines him. Mel was a wise man. But it was not just his wisdom that defines him. Mel had something that nobody could explain. It's a kind of inner light, if we can define this way. Something good, that Mel had so much inside, and we don't. Mel was a very brilhant and polite man as I said. He use to share with us, downstairs for coffee, here and there, always with his good mood and good conversation. I remember the barbecues, the Easter turkey dinner. Good times. Mel was always there with us, his friends, sharing good moments. I was not very close to Mel, but the distance gave me me a wide vision about him, and about everything. I'm not saying all this things because Mel is not here. I'm saying all these things becuase Mel is still here, in our hearts and we miss him and it hurts so bad. We gonna miss you Mel, forever and ever. And I decided to share to share all major people here feel. And this is my personal homage to our glorious Mel. No one was like him. Mel was open, friendly and kind. Now we feel sad for our loss. A few words defines my friend Mel, I think: A very brilhant man, great heart, good sense of humor, a and gentleman that we gonnna miss forever and ever. Trudy was closer than me as a friend of Mel. And she agree with every line wrote here. By the way, she wrote everything here.... But, anyway, Mel is unforgetable. A sad loss, but we believe in God. And we believe if you make a friend here, you will meet your friends, family, afterlife. We believe we will find the ones we love afterlife. After all, God is The Great Father. And He will provide us to meet the ones we love and our friends. Forever and ever. No matter what. - Posted by: Larry Wilson (neighbour) on: Sep 08, 2012

  • My name is Marcos Beltrami, from São Paulo City, Brazil. I knew my dear friend Mel, from his visit to São Paulo City, when he stay with my family. The Beltrami family. Mel loved São Paulo, and people from São Paulo loved him. It was amazing how kind people use to be with Mel. Always trying to be nice with him. Mel inspire good feelings, in people that surround him, Wherever he goes. Mel was a magnet of kindess from people to him. People, that treated him like a king. The king he always was. As man, and because of his higher moral stature. Mel was something else. He was one of a kind. Mel was the next level. Next level in goodness. Next level of friendship. Next level as a human being. Mel was human, and a had good heart, no matter what. Mel was everything that a human being should be, but they are not. Good, kind, generous, friendly, and full of love in his heart. Mel was 100% a good heart. Always ready to be a helping hand. I became a much better person, in my mind, and in my spirit, thanks to our loving, and forever in our hearts, Mel. Mel was always ready to give, without waiting to have nothing back. There's no much men like you here, Mel. That's why we gonna miss you so much. You were the light in the darkness, Mel. Only blind man could not see. Mel had always a smile shining in his face, with a heart full of love. And love defines my dearest friend Mel. Love surrround him. Love was his nature. Love was all that Mel was, all that Mel knew, as man, as friend. Mel was made to shine, like diamonds. And Mel was a precious. So precious that The Great Father bring him back, where he belongs. Heaven knows, that The Great Father wanted Mel closer to Him. Because Mel was special, so special, more than we can understand. Mel was not just a friend. He was a kind of friend always ready to help with his wise words. But what defines a man in his inner nature is the love a man have to give. And Mel had an inner goodness that I never saw in my life. Mel had a light, that surround him. I wish I could be a sparkle of all that light, wisdom and goodness. I think if The Great Father decides to look in the mirror, He would see someone very similar to Him, in goodness. The Great Father would see Mel's face. And so, I thank God for share his friendship, in my life. Just can't avoid the tears of goodbye. So soon, Mel, so precious, forever in our hearts. Now Mel, my heart is a garden of tears, sad, but happy too, because you are in Good and Holy Hands, with the Great Father in Heaven. The angels are singing because an angel called Mel is in Heaven now. A place where you belong Mel. Where a man so fair, so loyal, so good, should be. Mel, all your friends, me, family, people that knew you in this life, were blessed. And I was blessed too because you were part of our lives. All we can do is follow your steps Mel, that will lead us to a better place, called wisdom, goodness, and friendship. Your name is wrote in stone in my heart, Mel, forever and ever, and in the heart of so much people, family, friends, that loved you, and will miss you forever. We should cry. We should cry a lot Mel. Not just becuase you're not here anymore. But because we are lost without you. We are so short, as moral stature, Mel, and you were so high. Now we are here, crying without you Mel. Our teacher and sweet master, Mel is in Heaven now. You were here for us to teach life Mel. All the time. Do we learn the lesson? - Posted by: Marcos Beltrami (Friend) on: Sep 03, 2012
