SISTER LORETTA MCDONELL Loretta McDonell, CSJ (formerly Sister Mary Neva) died peacefully on Sunday, September 2, 2012, in the 70th year of her religious life. She is predeceased by her parents, William McDonell and Gertrude Casey and by her brother Leo .She will be dearly missed by her sisters Theresa Fitzgerald and Eva Marcoux and by her brother Bill and his wife Winn and by her nieces and nephews. Sister Loretta entered the sisters of St. Joseph in 1942. She served in the ministry of education as teacher and principal for 30 years in many places across the country and then moved into parish ministry in Winnipeg and Saskatoon for 20 years. From 1962 to 1964, Sister Loretta served the Congregation as the Director of Postulants. When Sister Loretta moved to the motherhouse in 1998, she ministered in an Out of the Cold program and in one of the groups of Associates of the Sisters of St. Joseph. For the last 10 years, her main ministry has been one of prayer for the works of the Congregation and the needs of the world. Her wake will be held at St. Joseph's Convent, 3377 Bayview Ave., on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, from 3:30 p.m.with a prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Convent. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

  • Sr Loretta served in our parish ministry for probably 12 to 15 years. She was much loved by children and adults alike. She loved our Lord dearly and shared that love perpetually.
