NOREEN LINKLATER Peacefully, on Friday August, 31, 2012, our mom Noreen Linklater passed away. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Kenny, son Larry, daughter Bobbi, granddaughter Jesselyn, her parents John and Alice Clark, sisters Olive and Edna and brother Charlie. Mom was born September 26, 1921, in Brandon MB, and had a wonderful childhood there, spending every summer camping at Clear Lake. After high school she moved to Selkirk to take her nursing at the original Selkirk Hospital on the banks of the Red River. She soon met her future husband Kenny at a dance at Cloverdale Hall. Mom and Dad married and bought a farm in Cloverdale where they raised their five children. We remember Mom sewing and knitting most of our clothes. On one occasion she ripped apart one of her coats so she could make two coats for her kids. She also made sure all her girls knew how to knit, even teaching her left-handed daughter-in-law. That is just the kind of mom she was. Mom worked for a short time at the Selkirk Hospital as an O.R. nurse and then stayed at home to raise her family. When her children were older she then returned to nursing at the Betel Nursing Home for many years. Not one to sit at home after retirement Mom volunteered at the Selkirk Hospital in the gift shop, The Gordon Howard Center, House of Economy, Library and at the Red River Nursing Home. Dad passed away in 1982, and Mom continued to live on the farm with her youngest son Bill. She then moved into Selkirk to the Lions Manor where she enjoyed many years of friendship, card games and puzzles. Mom and some of the ladies from the Lions would walk to the River Boat everyday for their afternoon tea. This was something she always looked forward to. For the past few years Mom has lived at Red River Place Nursing Home. This nursing home was built on the same grounds as the old hospital where she trained. Mom always said this is where I started out in Selkirk and here I am again. Mourning her passing are her daughters, Nonni and husband Merv Gudmundson and their children Noreen (Warren), Tim (Andria), and Michelle (Neal); Barb and her husband Stig Rensfelt and their children Chris, Laura, Karin and Eric; son Bill (daughter Nicole) and daughter-in-law Brenda and her children Dawn (Donnie), Lisa (Ray) and Cody. She also leaves her eight great grandchildren who she loved dearly, Cassie and Brittany Marshall, Jayce Pidskalney, Joshua, Owen and Annalea Gudmundson and Ryan and Mia Terrio. Mom's Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Cloverdale United Church with Rev. Virginia Coleman officiating. Her pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Noreen and Tim Gudmundson, Chris and Laura Want, Michelle Terrio, Dawn Pidskalney and Lisa Marshall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cloverdale United Church, 805 Cloverdale Rd., St.Andrews, MB. R1A 4J8 We would like to thank the staff and her friends at Red River Place for making her last few years so enjoyable. She really appreciated all the efforts put into planning the activities she loved so much. We were blessed to have so many years with Mom and will miss her so very much, but take comfort in knowing she is reunited with the love of her life Kenny and children Larry and Bobbie. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
