AGNES MARIE BODEN Peacefully in the early hours of September 5, 2012, Agnes passed away at the Poseidon Care Centre. Agnes was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert (Bob) in 2006, and their infant son, Brian. She was also predeceased by her parents, Paul and Marie Buors of St. Laurent, Manitoba, her brothers Albert, Louis, Jules, and John and her sister Susanne Carrière. Agnes is survived by her son Barry of Action Marguerite (Taché Centre), her daughter Mary-Anne (Andrew), and her grandsons Alastair and Fraser. She is also survived by her sisters Herveline Calvez, Elise Chartrand, sister-in-law, Anita Buors her many nieces and nephews and their families, and by Bob's nephews Gary and Grant and their families. Agnes was born in St. Laurent, Manitoba on June 21, 1924. She worked in her parents' General Store in St. Laurent until her marriage to Bob in 1947. Agnes and Bob lived on Sherburn Street until the birth of their son, Barry moving to Bronx Avenue in East Kildonan in 1952, where they resided for over 50 years. Shortly after Bob's passing, Agnes moved to Cathedral Manor, there she was united with family members and met wonderful new friends. Due to failing health in April of 2012, Agnes moved to Poseidon Care Centre. Agnes was a stay at-home mom. After Barry's diagnosis of cerebral palsy, she set up a school in her home for Barry and several other children with cerebral palsy. Agnes, Bob and their dear friends, Irene and Bill Zakala, were founding members of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba. Agnes will always be remembered for her extraordinary talents in sewing, crocheting, knitting and all kinds of needlework. There was rarely a moment when she didn't have something in her hands or a project on the go. She could always be counted on to knit and crochet baby outfits for all the family. Her Halloween costumes were works of art, born of great love for her grandsons. Agnes was very active with the CWL at St. Alphonsus Church; a Girl Guide leader during Mary-Anne's youth; and for many years ran La Boutique at Taché Centre. She was happiest when she was at the cottage at Laurentia Beach with her family. Agnes and Bob were the best grandparents! Every summer they would treat their grandsons to several weeks at the cottage, creating memories that will forever be cherished. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 12:00 noon in St. Alphonsus Church (Munroe and Brazier) with Brother Janusz Maron, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Laurent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the work and programs of ComSpan, 19 St. Anne's Road or Action Marguerite, 185 rue Despins in St. Boniface. 204-586-8044

  • Our sympathies to Maryann and family. Mrs Boden had been my neighbor since I was born 53 years ago. Mr and Mrs Boden were both wonderful neighbors and friends. Mrs Boden and I shared many special moments on her new front deck. They are always missed and hold a special place in my heart. Thinking of you Barry. - Posted by: Debbie Jackson and Family (Neighbors on Bronx Avenue) on: Sep 14, 2012

  • Mary Anne, I extend my condolences to you and to everyone in your family. Losing a mother, no matter the circumstances, is an event that leaves a huge void. The obituary and guest book tributes indicate that your mother was a very special woman. Cherish the memories. - Posted by: Paulette Lavack (Mary Anne's friend and colleague) on: Sep 11, 2012

  • Aunt Agnes was one of my very favorite aunts. She had a real impact on my life. She was so very kindhearted, easy-going and her home was always open to receive me. Later on in life, she did likewise for my children and grandchildren. She was much of a trail blazer in terms of letting go old antiquated ideas and prejudices. Though she was passionately devoted to her family she seemed to always find the time to be of service to others. NO doubt many will remember her devotion to victims of cerebral-palsy. I will always remember her and her warm smile and her happy disposition. In particular I will cherish my last visit with her approximately a week before her passing. She was very alert and making light of her situation. "No use crying over spilled milk", she joshed. God speed, Aunt Agnes. I love you! - Posted by: Rose Burrows (Niece) on: Sep 09, 2012

  • Our sincerest condolences to Barry, Mary-Anne and all the family. I (Robert) have the fondest of memories of both Bob and Agnes from my early childhood and was so very thankful they were able to attend and be a part of my wedding in 1993. Take care and be comforted by your many happy memories of BOTH your parents! - Posted by: Robert and Heather McLaughlin (son and daughter-in-law of Cecil McLaughlin) on: Sep 08, 2012
