BLANCHE EILEEN SMITH (nee DADSWELL) Peacefully on September 2, 2012, Blanche Smith passed away at the age of 90. Blanche is predeceased by her parents Frederick (Fred) Dadswell and Olive Dadswell (nee Edwards), her beloved husband of 40 years, Andrew (Andy) Smith and her grandson Scott Smith. She is survived by her sister Helen Rougeau of Winnipeg, Manitoba, her children Leslie Smith (Pat), Glenda Kell ( Wayne), her grandchildren Chad Smith (Lauren) and Andrew Kell (Jenna). Blanche was born in Belmont, Manitoba, in March 1922. She and her family finally settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She started her working career at TCA (Trans Canada Airlines) in the instrument shop during the Second World War. She later worked at a local grocery store where she met and later married Andy Smith in 1946. They made their home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, spending some time in Edmonton, Alberta and Regina, Saskatchewan where they raised their children. In 1984, they moved to Victoria, B.C. to spend their retirement years. Blanche spent most of her time raising her children and volunteering with their various activities. She was an active member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association Ladies Auxiliary in Winnipeg and also sang with their choir entertaining at various senior homes. Blanch loved her TV programs and was an avid sports fan. She loved her Vancouver Canucks and watched every minute of every playoff game of the 2010-2011 run to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Blanche got her greatest joy from watching her grandsons grow to be outstanding young men that they have become. She spent many hours watching and participating in their many activities. Blanche was a kind, generous respectful woman. She was a wonderful matriarch for her family. She always enjoyed a good laugh and nothing made her happier than having her family together for any occasion. Our family would like to thank all the staff at Jesken Aerie, Beacon Home Support and Dr. Tom Bailey for the outstanding level of care given to our dear Mom. Blanche truly loved living at Jesken Aerie, where she made many good friends. She was one of the original Golden Girls . Her Celebration of Life will be held at Jesken Aerie, 817 Goldstream Avenue, Victoria, B.C. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
