Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES FULLER BURGESS June 20, 1922 - July 24, 2012 Peacefully, on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, James (Jim) Burgess passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 90 years. Jim is survived by his daughter JoAnne (Anderson), son Terry and former wife Olive Burgess (nee Heaton), stepdaughter Rosalee Edwards, stepson Dr. Edward McCauley, and stepgrandchildren Carrie Lyn Edwards and Alec McCauley. He is fondly remembered by Ina Boivin, Mandy Boivin, Allyssa Boivin, Franco Veltri, and Nico Veltri. Jim was predeceased by his wife Minerva (nee Richards), parents Dr. William A. Burgess and Mabel Burgess (nee Fuller), sister Margaret Jane Jewell, and stepsister Lillian Doris Burgess. Jim was born in Ottawa on June 20, 1922. He served with the Canadian Army in the Second World War, and, on his return to Canada, met his future wife Olive at Minaki Lodge. They married in Winnipeg in September, 1948. Jim worked at Motor Coach Industries in Winnipeg for many years, where he was very active in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). Jim and Minerva married in Ottawa in August 1979. Together, they were deeply involved in the Burrows NDP Constituency Association. Jim was never happier than when telling stories to family and friends, or when working in his gardens. Thanks to the staff and nurses of Winnipeg Homecare for many years of taking care of Jim. A celebration of the life of James Fuller Burgess will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15 at Atlantic-Garden City United Church, 725 Atlantic Ave., Winnipeg, Rev. Mary Best officiating. In accordance with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place.
