LORNA O'BRIEN (MCDONALD) After a long and full life, Lorna O'Brien passed away on September 8, 2012. Born in St. Vital, April 19, 1922, to Angus and Johanna (Strindlund) McDonald, Lorna is survived by daughters Susan (Terry Moss), Nancy, Sharron, and Kim, and grandchildren Jamie, Brian (Jen Sagum) and Kelly Moss; Stefan and Richard Bars; Cody (Kate Baldry) and Matthew Drinkwater; Christopher and Johanna Chipman; great-grandchildren Jack Drinkwater and Klara Jean Moss; and sister Bernice Anderson. Lorna was predeceased by husband Brendan and second husband Currie McMillan. Upon graduating with a degree in Physics in 1943 from the University of Manitoba, she began her remarkable career with Marconi Radio Company in Montreal during the war. She returned to make her home in Winnipeg in 1945, working in cancer research at the Winnipeg Clinic. She met her husband Brendan O'Brien on the village green at Victoria Beach, where they went on to spend many happy summers with their children and grandchildren. Recognizing the potential for growth in passenger travel, Lorna and Brendan started O'Brien Travel Service in 1959. They shared a marvellous life travelling to exotic locations and sending thousands of Winnipeggers on adventures the world over. Lorna's greatest pleasure was enjoying time with her family, whether it was playing tennis, skiing, golfing, sailing, or just spending lazy days on the beach. We loved her humour and her brilliance. We are thankful to have shared in her extraordinary life. We are grateful to the staff at Rosewood Village for their exceptional care. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The family is holding a private service. Lorna was a very astute business woman. She was a pioneer for women in the travel industry. In the airline, we had two types of travellers - those that travelled First Class and those that were First Class. Lorna was the latter. - Posted by: David Leitold () on: Sep 11, 2012
