CLAIRE ARNAL Claire Cécile Arnal (née Désilets), aged 67, of Winnipeg, MB passed away on September 11, 2012. She was born to Aimé Jim' and Salomé Sally' Désilets (née Carrière) on February 23, 1945 in Victoria, BC. She spent her formative years in Powerview, MB until 1964 when she married Richard (Dick) Arnal and moved to Fannystelle where they lived and worked on a farm and raised their family. Claire is survived by her husband Richard, children Julie-Anne Arnal, Jérôme Arnal and Joëlle (Mark) Adams, grandchildren Lauren and Sophia Adams, brother Jérôme Désilets, sister Laurette Désilets (Kim Trethart), aunt Cécile Towler and aunt Ida and uncle Paul Désilets. She also leaves behind a wonderful and loving group of friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, very recently, her sister Danielle Désilets and her parents-in-law, Almir and Bertha Arnal. Claire embraced rural life and spent 46 years on the family farm. She never stopped moving, working or flourishing. People were drawn to her. She was artistically talented and creative with the most mundane tasks. She was gracious, always hospitable, quick-witted and will be remembered best as a compassionate, wise and true friend. Claire leaves a huge void in the lives of all she touched. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. This in no way defined her. We miss her dearly. We would like to extend special thanks for the devoted care and support provided by the staff and volunteers of Victoria General Hospital Cancer Center, St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Riverview Health Center, 3E. A funeral service and celebration of Claire's life will be held on Saturday, September 15 at Sacred Heart Church in Fannystelle, MB at 10:00 a.m. with Father Armand Le Gal officiating and Father Lawrence Agorchukwu. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Dear Mom, Please know that when we're hungry before dinner we'll have an apple and when we're bored, we'll go outside and throw a ball around. Love, your children Adam's Funeral Home of Notre Dame, Manitoba in care of arrangements. Phone 204-248-2201 or 1-888-400-2326. www.afh.ca

Condolences & Memories (28 entries)

  • Dick We just read about your beautiful wife, and we knew we just had to send a little note to you. After getting to know you when your brother Jules passed on, how special a man you are, and how much you loved Claire, we just could not let it go by without saying how sorry we were to read that you lost your friend, love and companion of so many years. We are sorry we never got to meet her as she was too ill to travel back then, but we knew how special she was by the way you glowed when you spoke of her. Funny how she died the same day as Jules, must have some special meaning in that. They must be together, laughing and feeling well. Wish we could help you through this, but take time and alot of love from family and good friends. If ever in Ottawa, we are here. Take good care Marilyn and Debra - Posted by: Marilyn and Debra Babcock (Dicks Brother Jules Good Friends in Ottawa) on: Oct 01, 2012

  • Claire was an amazing person. When she and Dick moved into the city we felt blessed to have such wonderful people come into our lives to be our neighbours. Claire left a huge impact on both of my daughters. I remember not long before she went in for a hospital stay she was outside painting a picture of our street. She was an amazing person you could count on even though she was ill she always put that aside to help others. To her loving and wonderful children and beautiful granddaughters; life is too short. Take comfort in the fact that your mom is always with you and when you look up at the night sky she is that bright star shining down upon you. To Dick; you have many people surrounding you with love. Take comfort in the fact that your children and family are always here for you. God Bless. With love The Hill family - Posted by: Tara, hanna, Ariana & Valerie Hill (Neighbour) on: Sep 24, 2012

  • When Claire told me she was going to be a "MaMere"; I said the only other MaMere I knew was mine. It simply warmed my heart. She was so happy to meet her next generation. Your wife and mom's energy was electric and addictive. She brought so much to our team. Her arms were always open and she included your dad's when we needed storage for all of our stuff! Claire's soul will always be a part of my heart. I will never eat another apple without thinking of her. She was so very proud of all of you and loved you dearly. - Posted by: Barb & Don Cnockaert (Chemo Savvy Sister (dragonboat team)) on: Sep 19, 2012
