LUCILLE OMSON The family of Lucille Omson sadly announces her passing on Friday, September 7, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Born in Winnipeg on March 25, 1922, to Helen and David Bell, she spent her formative years there, studying Home Economics at the University of Manitoba. Lucille married her high school sweetheart Alan Omson in 1942 and lived for the next few years in both Montreal and Vancouver, where Alan was stationed in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1950, they returned to Winnipeg where they raised their four daughters. Being community minded, Lucille was very active in the Brandeis Chapter of Hadassah, B'Nai Brith, and National Council of Jewish Women. Both she and Al made philanthropy a priority in their lives, and supported numerous charities and those in need over the years. As a devoted homemaker, a fine baker and gardener, an excellent bridge player and a fine golfer, Lucille lived her life to the fullest, instilling her love of life in her daughters. In their retirement years in Palm Springs, CA, travelling, involvement in the cultural arts and collecting art became their passions, before returning to Calgary in 2002, where they were lovingly cared for by their daughter Joan. Lucille was predeceased by her loving husband Al in October 2009, and her beloved daughter Lois in 1992. She is survived by her remaining three daughters, Joan Omson Hollenberg and her husband Dr. Morley Hollenberg of Calgary, Judi Omson and her husband Dr. Ron Dumoff of San Diego, and Sandi Omson and her husband Mike Cawley of Brampton, and son-in-law David Watson and his wife Cora of Markham. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elisa Hollenberg and her partner W.T.S Tarver of Toronto, Dr. Daniel Hollenberg and his wife Seema Hollenberg of Ottawa, Jesse Dumoff and his wife Roslyn Hughes of Sydney Australia, Kelsey Dumoff and her fiancé Andrew Smith of San Diego, Melisse Watson and Jonathan Watson of Toronto and Markham and Lauren Omson of Brampton. Lucille is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Mira and Isaac Hollenberg of Ottawa and Thomas and Samuel Dumoff of Sydney Australia. She will be sadly missed by her dear friend Anna Pahlavan whose loving care and magic touch gave her such comfort. Much gratitude to her devoted companion, Cleafe Guardiana and devoted friend Edna Sariday. A graveside service took place at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. If desired, donations made be made in her memory to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Suite C400-123 Doncaster Street, Winnipeg MB R3N 1X7.
