MURRAY ANTHONY YANKOSKI
Date of Passing: Sep 15, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURRAY ANTHONY YANKOSKI February 22, 1951 September 15, 2012 With his beloved wife Martha at his side, Murray passed away at home as he had wished. Our sorrow is deep, but the memories are many of a kind, caring man, wonderful husband, dad, brother, cousin, friend and employer. Along with Martha, Murray is survived by his stepchildren: Phil (Marie-Anne), Camille, Christine (Wayno) Marie-France (Mark), grandchildren Jamee-Lynn and Brooke, his sister Pattie (Bill), his brothers Rob (Jannie) and John (Karen), three uncles, many cousins, friends and hundreds of people whose lives he touched over his many years in the print industry. He was predeceased by his father Frank and mother Lena (nee Hachkowski), and sisters-in-law Annie and Rose. Murray was born in Winnipeg and grew up in St. Vital. After graduating from the University of Winnipeg, he founded Contemporary Printing Services in 1975. It was through his business where he met Martha and so printing gave him not only a vocation, but also his much-loved wife. Murray had lots of interests. He was a keen observer of world affairs, a consummate benevolent biker (and owner of a wide variety of motorcycles), hunter and fisherman, CFL fan, self-taught chef, and music afficionado. He loved nothing better than spending time with Martha at their camp on the Whitemouth River and cooking up freshly caught pickerel. His priority though was his family and friends. Murray was the family Patriarch. Although a little young for that ancient role, he had the wit, the wisdom and the generosity for the part. And he played it well. His beard of course, always helped to complete the image. His pride in his ancestry manifested itself every Ukrainian Christmas with a traditional dinner, shared with family and hosted by good friends Herb and Violet at their home. But for all that, he was the quintessential Canadian... True patriot love in all thy sons command truly held meaning for him. Many thanks are extended to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Program team for supporting Murray and his family during his final days. A particular thank you to Dr. Hugh Smith and all the health care personnel who helped him live the longest life possible. He didn't waste a second. A funeral mass and reception will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at St. Emile Catholic Church, 556 St. Anne's Road. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in Murray's memory may be made to Variety, The Children's Charity of Manitoba or a charity of your choice. During my career, I made many trips to my home town of Winnipeg, without exception my first stop was Contemporary Printing to see Murray and the crew. Great times discussing politics, and anything else that came to mind. It's said that "only the good die young" he was one of the best. We miss you Murray David Vokey - Posted by: David Vokey (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2020

Although I only knew you for a short time, I already miss you a great deal. I will miss our visits at the end of our busy days and our discussions about environmental and world issues. I wish I could quote your many sayings and cliches. The way you made sense of the world in such a meaningful way will stay with me forever. I will always remember how supportive you were of me and my new business venture. We had so much more to discuss. My deepest sympathy goes to your wife, friends, employees and family. - Posted by: Brock Perchotte (Friend) on: Sep 26, 2012

I still hear Herb Alpert's "A Taste of Honey" in my head this morning. I hummed along; it awakened pleasant memories. I have a variety of other good memories of Murray; some light hearted and some more serious. I remember Murray as a warm, compassionate and generous man. - Posted by: Jim (cousin) on: Sep 21, 2012

My husband Len and I were introduced to Murray over 30 years ago by Len's cousin Orest who was also my husband's cousin. We met over the years for business purposes and it was always a pleasure to see Murray and chat. Our condolences go out to his wife, Martha, his children and grandchildren and his siblings, Rob and John and their families. Rest in Peace Murray. Gary began as employee of Murray's. Though Gary moved on work wise, he and Murray always had some form of contact. Each held the other in high regard. Murray helped us often over the years. Most recently he was the first to step in when we hit hard times. Though Gary and Murray saw each other weekly, we were always going to have Murray and Martha over for dinner....but that kept being postponed due to my own illness. It would have been nice to have had one last visit. - Posted by: Elaine and Gary Thomas (colleagues and friends) on: Sep 19, 2012

I am very saddened by the loss of such a devoted, caring, "live life to its fullest", witty, collegue and friend. I met Murray way back in the late 70's and I can honestly say it was always a pleasure to be with him discussing matters of our worldly day. I always respected him, for his ways he showed respect and care for everyone around him. You were a wonderful human spirit and I will remember you always. May your spirit live on in all those who mattered to you most. I extend my sympathy to all Murray's family, friends and employees. - Posted by: Joe Taylor (business client and industry friend) on: Sep 19, 2012

I have worked for Murray since 1984 at Contemporary Printing. He was not only my employer, but became my friend. I enjoyed many times at his camp fishing and splitting firewood. Murray and I had many a conversation about world issues and how we could solve them! Sleep well my friend. I will miss you. - Posted by: Shane Beacom (friend and employee) on: Sep 19, 2012

Murray always gave you his full attention. He seemed to live every moment to the fullest. I remember back in the early 80's visiting him with the children and he went out front and put some coins on the ground (below a tree) and when the kids came out, he pointed to the ground that money had fallen from his tree. The kids eyes were like saucers! I always made a point of calling Murray and Martha when I came back to Wpg. for a visit. I felt welcomed and we enjoyed some stories of growing up, along with meals served with plenty of laughter, (along with Rob, Jan, John and Karen). I just know that you're entertaining different souls now. Our loss is their gain. Love you Murray - Posted by: Vicki yankoski (cousin) on: Sep 18, 2012

I have known Murray for about 35 years, as a friend, printer, lunch partner, and as an avid badminton partner. At one time, we even attended a Korean martial arts school together, with his daughter, who later worked for me at Aviva Natural Health Solutions. I was saddened to learn of his passing. Murray was one of the kindest, most sincere, and valued friends I have ever had. Murray loved all kinds of different ethnic foods, and we would often meet for lunch at a Thai restaurant in St. Boniface. Recently, I introduced him to one of my favorite German restaurants, Gasthaus Gutenberg. Murray was a professional in the true sense of the word in the printing industry, always producing the finest quality printing for the various business I have had over the years, from my early days as a photographer, to my more recent career as a natural health professional. It was obvious that everyone that knew Murray loved him, from his staff, to his customers and clients. Many of his employees have been with him for over 20 years. I know that all of his friends considered themselves lucky to know him. He had a heart of gold. There will never be another Murray Yankoski, and I will miss him for the rest of my life. - Posted by: Nathan Zassman (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2012
