ELEANOR TILLIE BESSLER Peacefully, with her family at her side, our dear sister and aunt, Eleanor passed away on September 13, 2012, at Vista Park Lodge. Eleanor was predeceased by her father Fred in 1993, mother, Minnie in 1998, brother-in-law Ray in 1996, and aunt Minnie in 2005. Left to cherish her memory are sister Alma Ander (George), sister Trudy Davies and brother Herb Bessler (Ena). She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Elaine Askin (Ray), John Davies, Harry Davies (Patty), Lori Pallot (Dave), and Kelly Mountain (Guy), Marc Ander, Patricia Bessler (Peter Graham) Craig Bessler, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Eleanor Tillie Bessler was born on November 24, 1927, in Neudorf, Austria, and emigrated to Canada at nine months of age with her parents. As a survivor of the 1938 polio epidemic, Eleanor spent over a year at King George Hospital and the Children's Hospital. She attended Ralph Brown and Faraday schools, receiving her High School Diploma from St. John's Collegiate. Forever a fan of baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals, Eleanor enjoyed many seasons as bat girl for the West Kildonan Tigerettes. In the summer of 1946, she began a career at the Manitoba Liquor Commission that would last over 45 years. Throughout many of these years, Eleanor was also an active league bowler at Billy Mosienko Lanes. Eleanor was a seasoned traveler, frequently visiting relatives in British Columbia and Ontario, as well as making many trips to the United States with friends. A masterful petit-pointer, Eleanor's works grace the homes of many friends and family members. Her fudge cake inspired sweet dreams and her roller coaster cake inspired fun memories. A beloved teaser of her nieces and nephews Eleanor's wit, along with her fierce independence remained to the very end. Brought up and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church, she later attended Epiphany Lutheran and Joy Lutheran, where she developed a deep and deserved appreciation for Pastor Ed Mitchler. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Cam Lowden, the staff on Ward 3S at Victoria General Hospital and the staff of Vista Park Lodge for the compassion and exceptional care they gave Eleanor. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at the Neil Bardal Funeral Center, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joy Lutheran Church, 2 - 50 Barnes Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 4Z7. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca

  • I worked with Eleanor many years ago at the commission and for a time car pooled with her. I always enjoyed her wit and humor. Rest in peace Eleanor. - Posted by: Nancy P (co-worker @ the MLCC) on: Sep 17, 2012
