HENRY KOWBEL April 3, 1925 - September 17, 2012 Peacefully following a lengthy illness and with family at his side, Henry Alexander Kowbel left this life to begin a new one in the heaven he believed in faithfully his entire life. Beloved husband of Nettie, his wife of 63 years, proud father of Louise (Ken), Kathryn, Bruce (Scott), Brian and Donna, and busting-at-the-seams proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Predeceased by parents Emilia and Paul, sisters June and Lucille, and daughter-in-law Karen, he will be remembered by mother-in-law Stella Baran, brother Robert, sister Alice, nieces, nephews and friends. Henry loved many things but three true loves defined his life: first and foremost - and always - his family; the cottage on Bird Lake, a summer refuge for over 50 years; and finally, the community of friends that filled his life and who, with his family, will sorely miss his ready smile and gentle humour. A longtime resident of St. James, Henry was a founding member of St. Paul the Apostle parish and spent his career in the automotive industry, most notably as owner of Jameswood Service then until his retirement with Birchwood Motors. He and Nettie enjoyed exploring Europe, cruising the Caribbean and driving ambling routes to Texas and back. Many thanks to the staff at Tower 6 Deer Lodge Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Henry's memory to DLC Centre Tower 6 Personal Care Home, (2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3) would be appreciated. Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

Henry was one of the constants in my life growing up, whether I saw him sitting near the front of the church, at "Henry's garage" or just visiting with our family.
