TERRY DESAUTELS Peacefully, with family by her side, Terry passed away at Health Sciences Centre Monday, September 17, 2012. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend, Reynald, and by her children, Andre and Nicole. Terry was born Kathleen Terry Czarkowski July 19, 1956. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Julian, her mother Olga Lilja (nee Jonasson), her father-in-law Rene, her step-father-in-law Arthur and sister-in-law Diana Desautels. Terry was a graduate of the Health Sciences Centre School of Nursing, and would later go on to complete her Bachelor Degree in Nursing as well as Masters in Nursing, both at the University of Manitoba. In her career, Terry worked as a General Duty Nurse, Assistant Head Nurse, Head Nurse, Clinical Manager and Director of Care. She worked at Health Sciences Centre, Misericordia General Hospital, University Hospital (London, Ontario), Grace Hospital and Salvation Army Golden West Centennial Lodge. Terry was an active member and Treasurer of the Manitoba Gerontological Nursing Association. She was a loving wife and mother who regularly devoted her time and energies to and for her family. She treasured her friends and colleagues and would often be in close contact with them. She had a knack for making wonderful jams, and would often mend and make clothes for her family. One of her favourite pastimes was doing cross-stitching in the evenings. She was an avid reader, and would often go for walks with her friend Leslie. Her point of view towards life and those around her, whether they be family, friends, colleagues, patients or acquaintances could be summed up in the quotation she wrote, when graduating as RN, in her 1976 Health Sciences Centre yearbook: Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and the wrong; Sometime in your life you will have been all of these. Our family would like to thank all the staff at CancerCare, our friends and medical staff at Grace Hospital, and our close friend Lorna for being like a sister to her, and for being there when Terry and our family were in need. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 4588 Roblin Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 3M7 CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choosing. • I was blessed when my Dad and step-Mom received care from Terry last year at Grace Hospital. Her cheerful demeanor, so typical of our school days, tender heart and generous spirit towards my family lightened my load. Terry was particularly kind to my father, walking him home across from the hospital when his dementia overtook him while visiting his wife. I knew right away Terry was the gentle heart with him. I looked for her each hospital visit and always felt brighter in her presence. I'm so shocked and saddened by her sudden loss and lift her family up in prayer, knowing God's love surpasses all sorrow. - Posted by: Deborah (Duerksen) Campbell (classmate-Royal School) on: Sep 23, 2012

  • My sincere condolences to the family of Terry Desautels at this, her untimely passing. May the Lord be with you at this difficult time.
