JOHANN (JOHN) SCHMULAND March 16, 1942 - September 19, 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years, Karen; children, John Jr., Heather (Doug Sinclair), Deenna (Adrian Brown); precious grandchildren, Sydney Sinclair and Evan Brown; six sisters; three brothers; numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his infant brother and his sister. Dad was born in Brokenhead, Manitoba and he worked very hard on the family farm. He moved to Winnipeg and was employed at Sinclair Valentine, El-Kare Builders, Great West Life and the St. James School Board until his retirement. He was a member of West Kildonan Legion. Our Dad was a hardworking man and his passion was being a handyman . He loved to have his tool belt on and with a hammer in his hand he was always ready to lend a hand to his family and friends. He definitely was our go to guy , no task was too big or small and he loved helping everyone. In his spare time he enjoyed weekly curling, a good round of golf and attending many Grey Cups across Canada with his family. But most of all he enjoyed his time with his family at their cottage at Patricia Beach. A Celebration of John's life will take place on Sunday, September 23, 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. DAD Thank you for giving us the Tools to conquer anything and never to be afraid. You will always be in our hearts. You will be deeply missed. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

John we had a bumpy start you and I. I don't think you knew what to make of this 20ish girl who moved in next door with her 2 little girls climbing all over her house, chopping down trees like a man. I know you hated me climbing up my old wooden ladders to paint the house or go on the roof, that's when you showed me where yours were, I was told "I don't want to see you falling off a ladder". How ironic is that! Watching you snowblow the driveway every winter, then ours and the street making sure Dave had somewhere clean to park. Cleaning out your garage and then joking with me that it will all end up in my garage anyways so should he just bring it over for me lol. Seeing you sitting in the garage Saturday mornings reading the newspaper listening to German music, coffee cup in hand. Keeping you full of garden tomatoes which I just gave you some on Monday, you loved your tomato sandwiches. All the street hockey in your driveway with Jay when he was small, Karen put a stop to that when she realized you were using the garage door as a net, and the biggest warmest thing, summer of 2004 building my house for me. Karen called it an old fashion barn raising because the whole neighborhood was involved. You were the glue that kept my house together and everytime I pull into my driveway I know that. I am gonna miss you my friend ♥ - Posted by: Elaine (nextdoor neighbor since 1985) on: Sep 21, 2012

I met John about 15 years ago. The first time we met, we shook hands then, he asked me to climb a fence and get him a window from behind the garage, he was always working and loved doing it! I was fortunate enough to curl with him for 2 years, he was always calm and collected no matter the outcome....at least on the outside. :-) John once showed me a picture of a big old car he bought and told me how he was going to drive it to Calgary. I said " wouldn't it be expensive on gas"?? and he said "Dean, when you get to my age and find yourself worrying about the price of gas, you have bigger problems than the price of gas"! John was a great man and a great example, I looked up to him and was very proud to have known him. - Posted by: Dean (Friend) on: Sep 21, 2012

John, you will deeply missed. Your laughter warmed all of our hearts. Your generosity and kindness is what you are all about! Yep, I agree about the tool belt! Early mornings at the lake, fixing something or making something.. that's what he enjoyed! Our family will deeply miss you... Lisa, Darrin, Brandin and Justin Chernetski. Our prayers and warm memories are with the family at this time and rest in peace.. John - Posted by: Lisa Chernetski (friend of family ) on: Sep 21, 2012

I will never forget how Mr Schmuland always had a smile, hug and kind words for me. He always made me feel part of the family. I was fortunate enough to have spent alot of time at the lake with the family and that memory will be forever in my heart. I cherish the time you were a part of my life and I will never forget you.
