Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERVE FREDERICK COUTU 1912 2012 With sadness the family announces the passing of our Dad, Herve Coutu at the age of 100 years, on Tuesday, September 18, 2012. Herve is survived by his children, Doris (Jules), Rose (Ken), Albert (Patsy), Victor (Karen), Emile (Marion), Roland (Marilyn), Linda (Dave), Corrine (Claude), Cyril (Debbie), Leonard (Anita), Douglas (Wendy), Neil and Larry (Wendy). He was predeceased by his wife of over 70 years, Florence in 2010, his oldest son Omer and daughter-in-law Jessie, son-in-law Lloyd Sloane, grandsons Walter Coutu, Trevor Coutu, Darcy Coutu and Marcus Coutu, great-grandson Bradley Munro and great-granddaughter Ryan Pistun. Herve was born on July 21, 1912 in St. Laurent, MB, the youngest son of 11 children to Daniel and Marie Coutu. As a young man he worked as a fisherman over the winter and landscaper for the remainder of the year. In 1939 he married Florence Robinson and they raised 14 children together in St. Laurent. During this time Herve continued as a fisherman in the winter and as a painter during the summer. In 1968 they moved their family to Winnipeg to be closer to work and in 1975 they moved to Calgary. Herve continued to work as a painter until 1977 when he retired at the age of 65. He looked forward to his family dropping in and the Sunday night poker games at home. When Herve spoke of his family this was not only his children but his 41 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren of which he was definitely the Boss - making sure his kids knew that right to the end. From the time Herve was a young man he never missed an event that included dancing. Herve loved to dance - he was the first one on the floor and the last one to leave. Herve remained quite the dancer right up to his 90s, and could definitely out dance every one of his 10 sons. They returned to St. Laurent in 1999 and then spent 10 years in Winnipeg before deciding to come home to St. Laurent. Herve had been residing at the Neil Gaudry Assisted Living Centre, where he was looked after so very well by the wonderful caring staff. Herve loved to laugh, joke and tease and we will have many stories and memories of him. HE WILL BE MISSED. Funeral service will be held at St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Prayers will be held prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Father Michel Nault and Rev. Father Dominque Kerbrat will officiate. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
