GORDON SCHMULAND October 8, 1938 - September 23, 2012 It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend on Sunday, September 23, 2012, at the age of 73 years. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 51 years, Joan, daughters Brenda (Carson), Debra (Marc), son Darrell (Deborah), precious grandchildren Dennis, Shian and Brian, six sisters, two brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his two brothers, one sister and his parents. Dad was born in the R.M. of Brokenhead, Manitoba and as the eldest son worked very hard on the family farm which always held a special place in his heart. As a young man, Dad moved to Winnipeg and was employed at Manitoba Cold Storage. He moved on to work in the construction industry with Wallace Aikins, Kraft Construction and Paragon Industries. It was also during this time he began his own business specializing in concrete and stucco work. In May 2001, at the age of 63, Dad received his Red Seal crane operator certification and for the past decade Dad worked at Schmuland Crane Rentals. This meant the world to Dad as he was so proud to work alongside his son, grandson and nephew. Dad never lost his love for the outdoors and continued to enjoy cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling and tobogganing in the winter not to mention camping in the summer with family. Not only was Dad a jack of all trades, he was a master as well. He could build a house from the ground up and repair any vehicle from hood to trunk and everything in between. A celebration of Gordon's life will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, (204) 338-9974. We would like to extend special thanks to our sister-in-law, Deborah for being there for Dad in his hour of need. If you so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Gordon Schmuland. Dad, as devastating as our loss is with your passing, it would have been even greater not to have known you at all. We will miss you deeply and you will always be in our hearts. We love you.

  • Dear Aunt Joan, Brenda, Debbie and Darryl..I will always remember Uncle Gordie as the uncle who helped whenever I called him. He also wanted to stay till the party was over, so I stayed with him whenever possible..He always kept everything neat and tidy (vehicle, yard, etc ). It is very hard to sit back and know that Uncle Gordon has left us..Your family and others will go over the memories that you have have and everyone else has.. - Posted by: Greg Hastmann (nephew) on: Sep 27, 2012

  • We send blessings and love to you Gordon and your family. You can remember him and only that he is gone. Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. David Harkins Rest well Gordon and know your loved ones will be okay. - Posted by: Carl & Yvonne Kafka (inlaws on Joan's side ) on: Sep 26, 2012

  • Dear Joan, Brenda & Debbie, We are so sorry for your loss - actually, two losses. It's unbelievable that Gordon was always healthy and "on the go" and then passed so suddenly. I'm sure if one could choose, a quick demise is easiest but for the people left behind, a sudden death is very hard. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all - love Al & Judy - Posted by: Judy and Al Kuffner (Joan's cousin) on: Sep 26, 2012

  • I am so sorry Auntie Joan, Darryl, Debbie and Brenda. I can't believe the man who NEVER stopped has gone. Uncle Gordon was the man you talked to when you needed advice on just about anything about building, mechanics, your house, a car. I will always remember him as a man who kept everything so pristine, his yard, his house, garage. His presence in the family will be fondly missed. Love to you all.
