RICHARD MARION In the early morning on Monday, September 17, 2012, Richard Marion passed away peacefully, surrounded by members of his close family, in the Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife after succumbing to esophageal cancer at the age of 68. He was predeceased by his father Philippe (2006); mother Renée (2011); brother Guay (1962). Left to cherish Richard's memory are: brothers, Daniel (Lena) of Behchoko, NT, Gilles (Rita) of Gentilly, QC, Hervé (Germaine) of St. Malo, MB, Roland (Olga) of Winnipeg, MB, Conrad (Carole) of Montréal, QC, Gabriel (Geraldine) of Newmarket, ON; as well as sisters, Dianne of Winnipeg, MB, Marcelle of Montreal, QC, and Lise of Winnipeg, MB. Richard was born into a small community that nurtured his sense of independence and natural curiosity. After certifying as an electrician, Richard worked for a number of years on numerous construction projects. Wanting to broaden his experiences, Richard pursued further studies so that he could qualify working on trade projects throughout Canada. This decision opened the door to a life of discovery, travel and adventure. During his off-time, he travelled extensively. It was when he was visiting his brother Daniel in Rae-Edzo in 1986 that he decided to settle in Yellowknife, NT. He accepted the post as Electrical and Chief Elevator Inspector with Public Works in the Government of the Northwest Territories. In this capacity, Richard was diligent and conscientious, always placing safety first. In his adopted community and throughout his life, his strong faith led him to support many charities, sharing, as well his faith with the Tlicho People. His caring and compassion were well known to those who knew Richard. He was a generous friend, a caring uncle and a loving and loyal brother. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. Malo Roman Catholic Church in St. Malo, MB at 2:00 p.m. (Accueil 13h30). Our family is grateful for the support, visits and prayers shown to Richard during his illness. A special thanks to Sylvie Carignan, members of the Tlicho community, Elders and Chief and Richard's co-workers. We also thank the staff at the Stanton Hospital in Yellowknife, along with his caregivers at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. Richard, I am glad you are the sensitive and passionate and caring brother in our large family. It is always nice to have calm and balance in our lives. You are just like our mother when dealing with social justice and looking after the little guy who is less fortunate. It showed your compassion when you spent and devoted so much time with mom and dad in their final years. That is why I appreciate you so much for you always gave unselfishly to others.
