Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN C. GOWLER John C. Gowler, 80 years of Pincher Creek, AB passed away August 8, 2012 in Fort MacLeod, AB. Jack was born October 13, 1931 in Winnipeg to Ernest Earl Gowler and Alida Overwater Gowler. He is lovingly remembered by three brothers; George (Sharon), Dennis (Doreen) of Winnipeg, Allan (Lona) of North Vancouver, BC and a sister Marlene Gowler Endler (Harvey) of Big Bear Lake, CA, three daughters; Anne Marie Nippard (Rick) of Port Perry, ON, Deborah Hope and Lynn Houle of Oshawa, ON and a son Roy Gowler (Karen) of Mississauga, ON as well as six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many cousins. Jack was a hard worker all of his life. As a young boy in Winnipeg he delivered newspapers and telephone books. As an adult he worked for the railroad as a switchman and later worked in the trucking industry until he relocated to Edmonton, AB. He worked for the City of Edmonton until he retired in 1986 at which time he moved to Vancouver to take care of our Mother for the last six months of her life. Jack was a certified, licensed heavy equipment mechanic. He worked as a longshoreman for several more years before retiring for good. It was then that he bought property in Pincher Creek, AB. Jack's happiest years were spent on that small ranch, at various times raising goats, sheep and finally he settled for owning two horses, Sarah and Stormy. Every stray cat knew he could get shelter and a meal at Jack's place. For many years he was involved with the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Edmonton. On one of his many trips to Los Angeles, CA he decided to try out snow skiing. He soon became an avid skier, visiting resorts in Western Canada and along the route to Southern California. The family would like to thank two very special persons in Pincher Creek, June and Terry Lagrandeur who, without question, stood behind Jack throughout his illness. We appreciate all the kindness and friendship they gave to our brother. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses who attended to Jack at Vista Village in Pincher Creek and Extendicare in Fort MacLeod, AB. It was Jack's wish to be cremated and his ashes spread on his ranch in Pincher Creek. He did not want a memorial service.
