DONALD MYRON ONYSKO Passed away after an illness in Ottawa September 9, 2012. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Elsie Mossman, and children Kira (Rob Black), Denise (Ken Saunders), and Tanya, and grandchildren, Karina, Elena, Ella and Jack, as well as his sister Nadia Evans and family. Donald was born in 1934 to Mary and Peter Onysko and grew up in the village of Riverton. In 1957 he graduated, Gold Medalist in Civil Engineering, from the University of Manitoba and was awarded the Athlone Fellowship that took him to Imperial College London for further study and research. After practicing his profession for a few years, he returned to academic pursuits at West Virginia University where he received his PhD in 1968. Don had an enduring passion for his research in building science and for making a difference in the world. He had a way of finding the good in people and enjoyed humour at every opportunity. In recognition of his substantial contributions to his profession, he received several awards, the most recent being the National Institute of Building Sciences inaugural BEST Award for the Advancement of Building Science and Technology. A memorial service was held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 400 Sparks Street, Ottawa on Saturday, September 15. For further information and condolences http://kellyfh.ca/Orleans
