MABEL BANKS Grandma, Mabel Banks, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012. During her 99 years, Mabel lived an active lifestyle. Lunches with family and friends, shopping, day trips to the Casino, and tuning into many sporting events kept Mabel young! She enjoyed watching golf, curling and the CFL. If there was big game on TV, you knew to phone her later in the evening. If the phone was busy on a Wednesday night, you knew she was talking to her dear brother from B.C., Bill Dyer. They kept in touch on a regular basis and fortunately, Bill, his wife Pat and son Clifford had recently travelled to Winnipeg for a visit. This past year, Mabel had visits with Bill's children, Clifford, David, Cathleen, and Michelle; as well as with some of his grandchildren Nadia and Katrina, here in Winnipeg and via FaceTime. Mabel also enjoyed spending time with her son Brian and certainly enjoyed family dinners cooked by her daughter-in-law, Shearon. I never pass up a free meal! Shearon is a great cook! Mabel made everyone smile, especially with her infectious laugh. She was fierce, stubborn and a genuine soul. She would tell it like it is and we all loved that about her. Mabel was especially proud of her Irish heritage and never let a St. Patty's Day celebration go by without a top of the morning to you! She believed in donating to local charities and always sponsored friends and family when they were fund raising. Mabel was proud of her friends and she was a wonderful friend to others. There is a special bond between women. Not many get to experience the true sisterhood of friendship. Mabel and Jean did. They were they type of friends that could tease and support each other all at the same time. Their friendship was a gift. There is an empty seat at the Wizard card table where Grandma spent many Saturday nights with the girls Jean, Kay, Ruby and Marg; Grandma is going to sit this hand out. We are all winners in this game of life, just for knowing Mabel Banks. Love, Cheri Banks

I assisted you when you fell and broke your hip that cold winter day. Every time we saw each other after that, you always said hello with a smile. You were a kind and gentle woman. My deepest sympathy to your family. - Posted by: Brenda (Friend) on: Oct 02, 2012
