Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH DOREEN JOSEPHINE HAYS 1926 - 2012 It is with sadness that the family of Doreen Hays (nee McCombe) announces her death on September 24 at the age of 86. Doreen will be deeply missed by her son, David (Toni); daughter, Jean-Anne; sister, Lorraine Rossell; brothers, Jim (Leslie) and Brian (Irene); brother-in-law, Cyril Drabik; sister-in-law, Ann; aunt, Dorothy; cousin-in-law Bernace and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John in 2011; parents, Jean and Joseph McCombe; her mother and father-in-law Anne and Norman; brothers, Larry and Jack; sister, Jo-Anne; sisters-in-law, Louie and Joyce and brother-in-law Stan. Mom was born in Winnipeg, May 20, 1926 and grew up in Winnipeg. During the Second World War, mom was a welder at McDonalds Aircraft. After the war, mom married John Hays. With dad being in the Military, there was a lot of moving from one post to another, in Canada, as well as a posting to Germany for two and one-half years. Mom enjoyed the experience, however she did miss her family, but being ever pragmatic (a trait she thankfully instilled in her children), she soldiered' on. Mom worked at Eaton's in Winnipeg and London, ON. Her main career was being a mother and wife and maybe we're prejudiced, but no one could cook like mom! Her holiday meals especially would be anticipated for weeks. Mom loved socializing, playing cards and reading; mom had a wonderful sense of humour and a quick wit. Although mom was not a church goer, she had a quiet, strong belief in God. Mom knew what was right and what was wrong and she had a strong sense of decorum, in other words, she had Class. Mom lost the ability to play cards and read with advancing macular degeneration, but nothing ever kept her from socializing! The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences and Seven Oaks for their dedication and compassion. In line with mom's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Sad to hear of your passing Aunt Doreen. Glad some of us got to see you in June at Christopher's bride's shower. Always enjoyed chats with you. You always said things as they were. Your kids are lucky they got to enjoy you as long as they did. It's hard for us to believe that our dad, your brother, has already been gone 23 years and has missed so many things. Thanks for remembering him and our mother as well in the obituary. Take care, all of you. Love, Robyn, Janet and family. - Posted by: Janet and Robyn McCombe (nephew and family) on: Oct 01, 2012
