DR. ARTHUR E. MARCINKOWSKY Dr. Arthur E. Marcinkowsky, 80, of Charleston, went home to the Lord peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 28, 2012. Dr. Marcinkowsky earned his PhD from RPI in 1961. He also served in the Royal Canadian Navy. Dr. Marcinkowsky was a former employee of Oak Ridge National Lab. He also retired as a research chemist at Union Carbide's South Charleston Tech Center after 32 years of employment. He was a member of the ACS for 54 years and loved tennis, gardening and hiking. Dr. Marcinkowsky was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Holdina Marcinkowsky; sister, Myrtle Tolway; and granddaughter, Sarah Marcinkowsky. Survivors include his loving children, Julie Rapsinski and husband, James of Denver, NC, Susie Marcinkowsky of Yorktown, VA, Carol Abbott and husband, Gary of Leesburg, FL and Alan A.E. Marcinkowsky and wife, Heidi of Charleston; siblings, Alice Verbong, Jean Lentz; and Bill and Ted Marcinkowsky; and grandchildren, Abigail Marcinkowsky, and Cierra and Haley Abbott. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Cunningham Parker Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
