LESLIE CAMPBELL It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Leslie Joseph Campbell on September 28, 2012. Les is the last of six children born to Mary and Archie Campbell. He was raised in the Weston area of Winnipeg. He attended Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre schools and went on to get his Certified General Accountant. He worked for the City Hydro for 18 years in customer accounts where he met his wife Margaret Whyte. He then moved on and got a job with Canadian Acceptance Corporation and then he ended his career working for the Winnipeg School Division at St. John's High School and then R. B. Russell High School retiring at the age of 65 in 1986. One of Leslie's greatest pleasures was going to the cottage at Ingolf, Ontario. He first started going there in 1923, at the age of two, being carried in his mother's arms and he grew up spending his summers there. Les carried on going to the cottage with his own family and he went there for many years until he could not do the trip anymore due to leg injuries and resulting arthritis. Les enjoyed curling, football, and hockey in his time. He curled for over 40 years and he was the president of the Civic Caledonian Curling Club for a period of time. Les loved his dog P. J., and he donated regularly to the Winnipeg Humane Society amongst other charities close to his heart. Les told his daughter Lesley that he was grateful for his family and for all of the good friends and neighbours that he has had over the years in Winnipeg and Ingolf, Ontario. Remembering this gentle man is his wife Margaret; son Colin (Kathy) and grandchildren Brad and Stacey; son Don; daughter Lesley (Cecelia) and grandchild Shane; and his sister-in-law Helen Fetterly and her family of Victoria, BC. Also remembering Les are his nephew Peter (Margo) McNamara of the Toronto area and their family, and niece Mary Anne (John) Gravely and their family of Virginia Beach. Les had a stroke in September 2010 and he was hospitalized until December 28, 2010 and then he resided at the Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home until his passing. His family is thankful to all of the staff at Pembina Place for their care and compassion. His family would like to give a special thanks to Fr. Gerry McDougall and Chaplain Melita Rempel-Burkholder. God bless all of those who share our lives, who share our joys and triumphs, our hope and dreams, and our sorrows. May Peace be with you all. A funeral service for Leslie will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012 at St. Ignatius Church, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • I have so many fond memories of my grandpa. Whether it be sitting with him in the veranda at the lake, enjoying the scenery, and listening to his stories of when he was younger; my grandparents visits for mine and my brothers birthdays and coming out to Manitoba for Christmas and summers. Going to the waterpark with them when we were younger and staying in the theme rooms at the malls hotels. I will always remember him as a kind, supportive and loving man. I couldn’t have asked for a better grandpa. Grandpa, I hope heaven is as serene, beautiful and peaceful as those days at the lake when the sun and the great big fluffy clouds were positioned just right over the water. Rest in peace. Love you always. - Posted by: Stacey Campbell (Grandaughter) on: Oct 03, 2012

  • Les was the best uncle a little kid could ever have had in the 1950's. He always made time for me – playing catch in the back yard, taking me to ball games, going to Van Buren's and drive-in movies. We always had great times at Ingolf. I will always remember him with love. Margo and I send our deepest sympathies to Marg and family. - Posted by: Peter McNamara (Nephew) on: Oct 02, 2012
