HILDA CAROL MACPHERSON (nee BOYD) September 9, 1930 - September 27, 2012 Carol passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning at Seven Oaks Hospital. Born in Toronto to Olin LeRoy and Hilda Gertrude Boyd, she was the youngest of four sisters. Carol was predeceased by her parents and her oldest sister, Mary Zealley (Ken). She is survived by John, her husband of 58 years, her sons Bob (Vivian) and Bill (Rita), grandchildren Shaun, Jill (Blake), Ian, Natalie and Hailey, as well as her sisters Nancy (Jim) and Eleanor (Doug), and her brother-in-law Jim (Norma) Macpherson, and 22 nieces and nephews, and 20 great-nieces and nephews. Carol graduated from Moulton College and earned her R.N. at Women's College Hospital in Toronto where she practiced nursing. After marrying John in May 1954, she traded the city life for five years of construction at two remote hydroelectric sites in Quebec. The next six years were spent on Niagara peninsula where she was active raising two sons and in the events of the Historical Society of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Since mid 1965, they have lived in Winnipeg where Carol became active in part time selling of antiques and volunteering at the Winnipeg Ballet's Women's Committee's Things Shop. She loved her summers at the cottage at Hawk Lake and enjoyed many winter visits also. Carol was often seen walking in town and at the lake, wearing her backpack and accompanied by the dog, whether it be for shopping, visiting friends, or just enjoying the out-of-doors. Both John and Carol enjoyed traveling, and Carol's most frequently mentioned were the trip to China and the Windjammer Caribbean cruise. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Carol's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • To Uncle John and all the Macpherson family we send our love and many, many hugs. Our parents Mary and Ken spent some wonderful times with Carol and John. We all have loved our visits to Hawk Lake, never to be forgotten. Blueberry picking with Sarah on bear watch, Victoria looking over her shoulder, sailing with Uncle John at the helm and also fishing with him. Auntie Carol laughed so much when Sarah landed a large pike right from the dock. Also with her cheering everyone on in the water, swimming and barrel racing!!! Victoria and Sarah hold you both in a special place in their hearts. We will always remember the love you have given us and continue to give. Auntie Carol will always be a part of our being. Sweet rest now!! HUGS Jane xoxo - Posted by: Jane Adamson (Niece) on: Oct 09, 2012

  • Mrs Mac will always be known by many as the "Katherine Hepburn on Golden Pond" of Hawk Lake....While you are gone, your voice and stories told at Hawk Lake, with the smell of John's pipe will resonate through the trees there for years to come! Thanks for the great stories that held us riveted on the edge of your couch, told with such enthusiasm and energy....you will be missed by many! Thanks for being part of the 3 M's and all of our families for all these years....rest in peace. - Posted by: Chris Marriott (Friend) on: Oct 06, 2012

  • Carol was a very unique person. Quirky, spontaneous and always welcoming. She was a people person and very entertaining with her stories. Yes, Mrs. Mac always treated us kids at Hawk Lake like we were special. Cruising past our cottage via boat with John at the helm Carol would always wave. She was an awesome & entertaining host anytime you dropped in at her & John's cottage. We shared many an impromptu supper after cocktail hr. which included the Marriotts. Thank you Carol for all the love spread and as my twin bro Brad said..you were like a second mother to us. You will be missed by all the lives you touched. Thank you xoxo - Posted by: Barbara Lieske ( nee McKay ) (Dear friend) on: Oct 06, 2012

  • Carol was an integral part of my life. Carol's love of life and care for others was an inspiration to myself and all of my family. She was like a second mother to me and I will always remember her welcoming me into her family. I will miss having her and John coming by at the lake with coffee cup in hand and her wave as she and John passed by in their boat. God bless you Carol, your memory will never fade. - Posted by: Brad McKay (Close family friend) on: Oct 03, 2012
