TONY WILLIAM KLYM January 9, 1935 - October 3, 2012 Tragically, on October 3, 2012, Tony passed away at the age of 77. Tony was born and grew up in Gimli, Manitoba. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Ann Klym. Tony was the second youngest of five children; Joe (Marnie) Klym, Frances (Eric) Holland, Mary (Ivan) Bobby and Elsie (Ronald) Woodley. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Edith, son Michael, daughter-in-law Kerri, daughter Laurine, son-in-law Omar and a most precious grandson, Tony Jr. (named after his beloved grandfather). Tony is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Tony was a very dedicated and caring father to Mike and Laurine and he felt renewed happiness when he was blessed recently with his first grandchild. According to many of his nieces and nephews Tony was their favourite Uncle. Friends and family have described Tony as kind hearted and easy going. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed telling and laughing at jokes. Always an outdoor enthusiast, he looked forward to his hunting and fishing trips in the bush. Tony had many accomplishments. After completing high school in Gimli he received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba, followed by his Doctoral Degree at Queen's University. Tony spent two years working in Thailand after which he travelled to more than 50 countries throughout his life. We are grateful for the time we shared with Tony and he will be forever remembered in our hearts. The family invites you to join them Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Gimli, MB, to be followed by a Celebration of his Life at 7:00 p.m. at the Travelodge Winnipeg East.

  • When I think of my Uncle Tony I see his big smile and I hear his laughter. He was amazing! Full of fun and energy! The last time he came to visit our home he had 6 milkshakes in his hands, one for each one of us! I love to hear the story about him wiring surplus World War 2 telephones to the fences in Gimli before they had a telephone system! Ten to twelve families could pick up the phones and all talk and share together. Every Sunday night they would play their instruments on the telephones and enjoy each other's music that way! In the summer they had to mow the grass so it wouldn't short out the wires. They were able to talk to each other when it was 40 below and too cold to visit each other's homes. I love you Uncle Tony! God bless you! - Posted by: Terri Myers (niece) on: Oct 28, 2012

  • Uncle Tony always had a camera in his hand, making time stand still for me and my brother Gary, Mom, Tony's youngest sister, Elsie and my dad, Ron. It was through the hundreds of pictures and slides from years gone by that the memories will never be lost or forgotten. He took Gary and I on our first camping trip it was in a real grown-up tent, set up outside in his and Auntie Edith's backyard. Our parents let us stay with them for a week they were in Toronto and we were only about 7 and 8 years old now camping in Kingston. That evening Uncle Tony showed me my first firefly, I was amazed I thought he was magic, and in my mind Uncle Tony was. He was a modest man who was highly intelligent he held a Doctoral degree in Engineering was sent by Canada as a gift to Thailand to help design and construct some of their roadways. His kindness was beyond what words could possibly say. He was young at heart relating well with all his nieces and nephews, helped raise two beautiful children. Uncle Tony was always there to help his family. My brother Gary and I are now grown and middle aged and my mother and father want to say that Uncle Tony will always be forever young, smiling and in our hearts. - Posted by: Debbie (Woodley) Bergman (niece (daughter of Tony's sister Elsie and Ronald Woodley) ) on: Oct 17, 2012

  • To my cousins: Sympathy with you we have lost a very special man in our lives. Vichnaya Pamyat. His memory will live on in our lives and all the very good things he did for the family, his family. Pidwinski's, Kobluk's Nebesny's Cunningham's and for his dear sister Mary Bobby of Willowdale who so depended on him for her every day living. There will never be another Tony to replace the love of family he had so now a little Tony was born and he will carry his name, how wonderful. We all have the same loss and it certainly was a tragedy to lose him this way. Lots of love family, Nebesny, Pidwinski, Kobluk, Bobby. We will celebrate the 40 days in Nov. on remembrance day weekend in Ontario. - Posted by: Christine Pidwinski Nebesny (First Cousin) on: Oct 10, 2012

  • Thank you Tony for being such a great dad to my dear friend Laurine. You also treated me like your daughter and I will always remember all you did for us. You took such good care of us when we spent 2 weeks in the Ukraine. The thousands of kilometers you drove over the years, taking us camping, to bars, to Darien Lake...anywhere we wanted to go you would take us. You were very kind to me and I thank you for that. I am sorry for the tragic end to your life, you deserved so much more. I love you, I love your daughter and I love Edith for being such an important part of my life. I will never forget you and I will make sure baby Tony knows what a great man you were. - Posted by: Tammy Eckerman-Bradley (long time friend of Tony's daughter) on: Oct 07, 2012
