ELSIE HIEBERT May 25, 1938 - September 25, 2012 Elsie Hiebert passed away on September 25, 2012, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 74 years. Elsie was born on May 25, 1938 to Abram L. and Sarah (Friesen) Hiebert. She grew up on the family farm three miles from Bothwell School which she attended until 1952. At 19, she moved to Winnipeg. She was a vibrant, beautiful and very fashionable young woman, and loved the city life. She spent most of her career years as a travel agent. In 1976, she married (Henry) Veron Kroeger, and they enjoyed almost 30 years together - travelling, dancing, curling, socializing and working together. Elsie was a very talented seamstress, and enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and playing Scrabble. Elsie had various health issues for over 15 years. During the past year her symptoms became more debilitating, with no confirmed diagnosis or successful treatment. Elsie was predeceased by her father in 1971, her mother in 1986, her sister Rosaline in 1971, and her husband in 2006. Elsie is lovingly remembered by her only sibling, Mathilda and Henry B. Kehler, four nieces and one nephew: Iris and Ryan Toews, Deby Kehler, Wendi and Paul Friesen, Jim Kehler and Marge Thiessen, and Nancy and Warren Neufeld, and their families. She will also be sadly missed by her stepdaughters, Elizabeth and Richard Mayor and Jacqueline and Kelly Klassen, eight step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grand-children. As per Elsie's request, there will be no funeral service.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Thank you Camille for speaking on our behalf as you have pointed out the importance of our relationship with Oma. Oma was a super grandmother as she loved us all unconditionally and treated us as grandchildren, no less. I am reminded of her thoughtfulness every day as my son cannot bear to be without the beautiful blankie Oma knitted for him. Oma was always amused by her grandchildren's antics and was happy just to spend time with us, sharing her glorious cinnamon buns and other delicious baked goods while teaching us the ways of Scrabble. We miss Oma very much and are comforted that she and Opa are together once again. - Posted by: Tara Mayor (Grandchild) on: Oct 09, 2012

  • So very sorry to hear of your loss Deby. I'm sure you will miss your aunt terribly. My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Carol Hildebrand (Friend to Deby) on: Oct 07, 2012

  • I was not Oma's step-grandchild just as she was not my step-Oma. I was born into this world knowing her and grew up with her as my Oma. I, as well as my brothers and sister and cousins, miss her terribly but I don't think everyone understands that. We love you Oma, tell Opa we miss him too <3 - Posted by: Camille Klassen (Grandaughter) on: Oct 06, 2012
