EVELYN IOANIDIS On Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Evelyn Ioanidis, aged 87 years passed away peacefully. Funeral service will be held at the St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Brian Flower officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Evelyn Ioanidis was born in Portage la Prairie on March 31, 1925. She was the youngest in the family. Her parents, two brothers, sister and herself operated the Olympia Café on Saskatchewan Ave. Later George's children added their efforts to the café. Evelyn was also a stenographer at MacDonald Airport and later on at Southport Airport. Evelyn had a love of dance- jive, swing and tap. Evelyn and Connie were inseparable siblings even on the dance floor. She loved Big Band music and enjoyed Lawrence Welk's bubbles watching on television every week, along with the current I Love Lucy episode. Evelyn was always loving and gracious to those in the café. All were treated equally. She cared for her mother until her passing and then kept watch over her dear brother Connie. Predeceased by her parents James and Isodia Ioanidis, two brothers George and Connie Ioanidis, sister Irma (Ioanidis) Condon, and nephew James Ioanidis. She leaves to mourn her passing her nieces Constance Moore, Joan Chudd, Maria Crete and Esodia Condon; two nephews James Condon and George Condon; and several great-nieces and nephews across Canada. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church, 36-2nd St SE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3B7. Many thanks go to the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge where Evelyn resided for the last four years.
