BIBS (PRISCILLA) MAY VENUS (HUGHES)
Date of Passing: Oct 14, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBIBS (PRISCILLA) MAY VENUS (nee HUGHES) 1923 2012 Mom passed away peacefully with her family at her side on October 14, 2012, at St. Boniface Hospital. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Cliff of 63 years, brothers Jack, Mally, Dodds and Denny. Mom will be dearly missed by her three children and their spouses, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as her sister Sheila, dearest friends June and Sandy, her large extended family and her breakfast friends. Mom was a homemaker for her entire life except for her brief stint as Rosie the Riveter during the Second World War and in later years was the Vice President of Dad's consulting company. She was a devoted wife and mother who also found time to volunteer through the Church as a member of St. Stephens Ladies Auxiliary Group Two and as a Brownie and Girl Guide tester. She also volunteered as a swimming instructor for Kildonan YMCA. Mom and Dad enjoyed an active social life with a large group of young married couples, providing lots of fun and laughter at the parties hosted at 420 Neil. As her children became more independent Mom began her long curling and golfing career. Through these activities she met a group of women who bonded not just as recreational athletes but as best friends. June, Lynn, Myrt and Mom enjoyed each other's company so much that they allowed their spouses to become part of the special group. Mom and Dad travelled with her best friends and their spouses on numerous golf holidays in a variety of warm locations. Mom also enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage at Fox Lake. The cottage became the center of family activity in the summer and created a special bond between her and her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. She taught all of her children and grandchildren how to swim and had a beautiful crawl stroke out to the diving rock. Mom cooked, cleaned and looked after the children so that other family members could enjoy the rest and relaxation of the lake. Mom was a fantastic cook and hosted numerous extended family dinners. She was a wonderful hostess making sure that food was plentiful and catered to everyone's individual tastes. Mom had boundless energy which she put into caring for family. She spoiled her daughters often doing their household tasks well into their married lives. However, the majority of her energy was expended in the love and care of her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and grand niece and nephew. She developed a bond with each child and always made each and every one of them feel they were special. Mom's selfless care giving extended beyond children, she was a tireless care provider to her mother, brother and husband during their declining health. Mom will be remembered for her generosity, sense of adventure, wry sense of humor, love of children, boundless energy and unconditional acceptance of all. The family would like to thank the medical, nursing and auxiliary staff of 5E St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent, compassionate care. A Celebration of her Life will be held at Thomson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19. Memories will be shared at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mom and Dad's favorite charities (Christmas Cheer Board, Siloam Mission or Winnipeg Harvest).
