ALAN EINARSON Gone Too Soon Unexpectedly, on October 15, 2012, Alan was taken from us all too soon. He was the much-loved husband of Meg Gray and the beloved Dad of Ellie. He was the best son to Ken and Elaine Einarson and the best brother to Warren and wife Anne (Harry, Lewis, Johan) of Australia, Ralph and wife Joanne (Perry, Owen) of Vancouver, and Krista and husband Boyd (Jonina, Freya, Gestny, and Soren) of Palm Springs. Alan was a uniquely talented individual. He was passionate about creating a beautiful world; in the physical environment, in the world of design and fashion, in his many close relationships, and in his many communities around the world. He had a wonderful ability to put people at ease, always looking for the beauty and potential in everyone and everything. Although his outside physique exuded confidence and strength, he was incredibly sensitive and vulnerable. His soul was full of love and generosity. Alan's warmth and kindness embraced the world. Not only did he connect with people, he naturally brought people together. He was a natural leader who quietly led and inspired by example. He had many friends and was respected and admired in business, athletics, and throughout his creative communities. Alan was a gifted man who was deeply loved by all who knew him. Even in the face of immense pressure Alan never strayed from his own internal compass. He was a man of great moral integrity and his loyalty was unsurpassed. He will be greatly missed. In honour of his life a celebration will take place on Saturday, October 20, at 1:00 p.m. at the Assiniboia Christian Centre at 3390 Portage Ave. to be followed by a reception at St. Charles Country Club at 100 Country Club Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alan Einarson Sports Culture Fund c/o the Winnipeg Foundation or a charity of your choice.

I am another colleague of Alan from the early days of the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, and I regarded him highly as a member of our remarkably talented Design Department. With his gentle nature and friendly smile, he was such a pleasure to work with, and could always be trusted to come up with creative ideas for exhibits and publications. His diving abilities and fashion sense in designing clothes demonstrated the breadth of his interests and talents. I join with all his many friends in sadly having to accept his passing far too young, and hope his family members are coping with this most-difficult and tragic event. - Posted by: Robert Wrigley (Colleague) on: Jun 30, 2014

Dear Meg and Ellie I wish I hadn't opened the paper on Saturday. My heart goes out to you and your family. Alan was so easy to love. He was kindness personified. So enormously talented and yet humble. We go back a long time to the first days of Trace Designs. Later it was Emme and Tundra. I won't come across the likes of Alan and Meg any time soon. My sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Vera matwichyna (Friend) on: Oct 25, 2012

I will miss Alan a lot. We haven't known each other more than the last year and a half, but he instantly became a favorite of mine. Although we only starting talking about working together in the future, Alan has left an indelible mark on my heart and in my head. He always made time to listen and talk, and was clear about his views, which totally helps a person like me. Your spirit will live on for years within Sockwa as we turn towards high end and quality. Alan will be greatly missed. Please look up my father, Al Zasloff, while you are in Heaven looking down. He went there in 1986 and would love to meet a new friend of mine. Be well Meg and always try to smile when Alan's name comes up. - Posted by: David Zasloff @Sockwa (Friend and hoped to work together) on: Oct 25, 2012

I was so surprised to hear of Alan's passing. Due to our geographical distance (I live in Toronto), I did not have the pleasure of getting to know Alan, but it is obvious from everything which has been written that he was a very special human being, who was very well loved. My sincere condolences to all his family and my cousin Ken and wife Elaine from myself and all my family in Toronto, BC, Oregon and Washington State. - Posted by: Gail Einarson-McCleery (Cousin on the Einarson side) on: Oct 25, 2012

I knew Alan and remember him very fondly from out diving days together. What I remember most clearly about him from that time was how kind he was to all of the divers when we travelled and practiced for endless hours together. He always maintained such good humor and generosity with his fellow divers even when he was juggling school and work. I sincerely regret losing touch with Alan over the years as I moved away, but I will remember him as a true gentleman, a beautiful diver and simply a great person. I can only imagine how painful this loss must be for his family and I extend my deepest condolences. - Posted by: Daron (Werthman) Dolynchuk (Diving friend ) on: Oct 22, 2012

This is one of those times in life that words seem feeble. Alan's passing is like a star that has lost its light. I think I knew him well, but I know not well enough. I thought I had a lifetime to know the man in his entirety but as fate would have it he left us all to soon. I will not make the same mistake again as I will cultivate my relationships, my friendships with a greater sence of urgency. We are all somehow better for knowing him and felt a little bit better about ourselves knowing that he chose to call us friend. Meg, Ellie and his family were loved by him dearly, this I know as fact, as he told me personally when we spoke of our families. I will miss those conversations and our time shared and hope to continue a connection with his family that he cared so deeply for. His time may have been cut short, but his memory will live with in us through out our days ..... Peace to you his family, and Rest in Peace Alan. ....... My condolences to Meg and Elie and to all of Alan's family and the assurances of our prayers. The world has been a better place because of Alan. He always exuded strength and kindness and never did I hear a cross word even when faced with the pressures of the fashion industry. It was an honour to have known him. I remember Alan standing on the 3M springboard at the Pan Am Pool, laughing and cajoling with his diving compatriot Bill. When it was his turn, Alan became more attentive, strode into his hurdle, pushed powerfully up and moved gracefully through the air only to split the water with his hands and plunge deeply into the waters. Perhaps this is a metaphor for his life - a man attentive to the important things in life, doing so with grace and humour. My sincere condolences to Alan's family and close friends. - Posted by: Nancy Ryan-Arbez (Diving friend from long ago) on: Oct 21, 2012

Most Saturday morning for the last 3 years we have seen Al at the WP YMCA gym working out with his friends. We never spoke at length but we always exchanged a few words of acknowledgement and always appreciated his dedication to staying fit. It was a huge shock for us to hear of his untimely passing and our hearts go out to his family. Saturdays mornings will not be the same again, we will miss his presence and also seeing his black jumper which was usually thrown somewhere on the floor after he had warmed up. - Posted by: Richard and Karen Insley (Friend) on: Oct 20, 2012

Alan and Meg were the "golden couple"...Alan full of enthusiasm and daring and Meg the realistic careful one. From the moment we met way back at Trace Designs I had a complete soft spot for both of them so full of joie de vivre and so in love. They hold a special place in my heart always. When I opened the paper the other day I cried seeing that handsome face looking out. Meg and Ellie you two were the axis of his world never forget that. Alan was a beautiful diver. He would slice the water like a blade. I always enjoyed watching him...so tall and strong yet with such grace. He was like the big brother I wish I had had. He seemed to carry himself through life in a similar manner. I remember how beautiful his outfits were when he moved into the fashion industry. I bought and wore several of them. I was so proud to know him and to watch his creativity grow. My blessings to his family in the days, weeks and months to come. May you feel some comfort in knowing he was loved and admired by many. I met Alan a few years ago at the cottage swim races. He was so friendly and had such a wonderful aura about him. Each summer our paths crossed on an avenue or at the pier, he never hesitated with a smile and to chat for a few moments. He was so down to earth, genuine, fit and energetic. He touched my life with just a few positive interactions. For those who knew him more closely -- I imagine he had such a tremendous impact on your lives. He will be remembered dearly by many. I gasped to read of Alan's passing and read through the postings that everyone felt the same. I met Alan in 1975 in Regina at the Western Canada Games (we were both nervous and excited divers) and we became quick buddies. We cannot fathom how a fit and healthy man in the prime of his life like Alan can succomb to a passing so sudden. The best thing about Alan was that he was genuinely interested in what one had to say. His manner was always calm and warm and friendly. There was so much to admire about Alan; his adeptness with cottage renovations, his stylish ways, his swim trophies! It has taken me several days now to accept the shock reality of Alan’s sudden death. My world will never be the same again and nor, I know will many other lives ever fully recover from the diffusion of his light. If ever there was a stronger, purer, more beautiful man inside and out, I have never met him. I worked with Alan in NYC, mostly under the most extreme performance pressures yet we laughed at the neurotics, giggled at the egomaniacs and chuckled at the vain. He was simple to know, easy to adore and it was effortless to respect from day one. His energy and vitality knew no limits and he attacked every challenge, personal or professional, physical or emotional with a tsunami of positive, creative forcefulness: Yet he never, ever hurt anyone in the process and unlike those in the markets that surrounded us he could bear no ill will, afflict no heartless gesture or indifferent stroke. To know Alan personally was a great honour, to have worked with him a true privilege. For ever, I will remember him as an uncontaminated source of all that is good in this world. - Posted by: Margo Page (Friend and business collegue ( Victoria Creager, Emme, Tundra)) on: Oct 19, 2012

It is is with profound sorrow and grief that I write our tribute to Alan. During the last three years I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with Alan at The Merino Company in New Zealand & Australia, and his visits to us and working at trade fairs in Germany with Alan, will be something that I will always treasure. Alan was indeed a special soul - he had some special gift that touched all he came into contact with. Alan was with my wife Claire and myself in Christchurch shortly after the first big 2010 earthquake here, in early 2011 when we first found and looked at the house we now live in. Upon a more recent vist to Christchurch Alan hung out at our house with us over a weekend and his spirit will always linger here with us. Claire and I wish Megan and Ellie our best wishes and we hope to catch up in the future. Rest in peace Alan - we will never forget you. - Kenn & Claire Poulsen, Christchurch, New Zealand. - Posted by: Kenn & Claire Poulsen (Business collegue) on: Oct 19, 2012

I am in shock and deeply saddened like everyone else. Alan was one of the most fit individuals I knew and a person you would have thought could live to be 100. He was at the top of the top ten percent both in business and as a person. I really think Alan was an Angel on earth as a blessing for all who knew him. God could not wait any longer and desperately needed him back for a project of the highest importance after many decades amongst us. I can see no other explanation for his passing. Meg, and Ellie- words cannot express how utterly shocked and saddened I am by the loss of this wonderful, wonderful man. He was such an inspiration to me (and will continue to be) for how to live a life full of appreciation for beauty, art, fashion, and all forms of design, and all the while working hard and with humour. Alan had the best smile and the best laugh, and I will treasure always having known him. My heart is with you Meg in every way, and I pray that your family holds you and Ellie tightly. With sadness and love, Lisa. - Posted by: Lisa Pearce (friend) on: Oct 18, 2012

Meg and Ellie, you know that each person's world stopped when they heard, "Alan passed away". Everyone paused. No one could ever imagine this happening. My heart aches with sorrow for you, the finality, and inexplicable speed your life has changed. With no warning, and no explanation, and no opportunity to say one last thing you move from creating memories to having them. I have to share with you some of my memories of Alan's beautiful spirit; his kind, compassionate words to me when my heart was broken, his tender, knowing smile when he picked Ellie up from my home in the middle of the night during a sleep over with Jess, when you joined us to celebrate Sara's 3rd birthday, his focacia bread, his awesome shirts and shoes, his pride in making Ellie's play house in the backyard, the non judgment I felt in my speedo ensemble beside his perfectly chiseled frame, the time he walked into MYC with Ellie in his Halloween attire...a head to toe skin tight and white lycra body suit...oh, and of course a cape....I am not sure which super hero he was that day, but in the spirit of the Halloween party and with 8 moms and tots, I know whose super hero he was. Thanks Alan for the memories. Meg and Ellie you are fortunate to be the keepers of Alan's heart. - Posted by: Susan Kos (Friend) on: Oct 18, 2012

Dear Meg, Una and I were so sorry to learn about the passing away of Alan. I look back on the times and experiences we shared together, some stormy, but overwhelmingly filled with good and happy memories. We are so completely devastated and saddened at the news of Alan's much too soon passing. Words cannot even express. We feel so privileged to have met Alan through his love not only for diving, but for the people and good times that diving brought together. Alan, with John, wanted to bring back Winnipeg's Canada Cup to its former glory days but what they didn't count on was making the Polar Bear Classic even more infamous and fun - just because of that great spirit and sense of fun. And through Alan, we met Meg, and felt privileged once more to know 2 people so genuinely in love. Our hearts go out to you Meg, and Ellie. Much love - so glad we stopped to have a beer with you guys this summer. Thinking of you deeply - Posted by: Alison and Chen (Friends) on: Oct 18, 2012

Dear Meg and Ellie... I want to express my sincere heartfelt condolences. Alan was one of a kind; dedicated, hard working, easy going, and inclusive of everyone. And, speaking for all from the museum, just great fun to work with and be around. At the museum reunion, most of our conversation was centered on family. He was so happy Meg and so proud of you Ellie. All good wishes to your family in this difficult time. - Posted by: Robert Barrow (friend and museum colleague) on: Oct 18, 2012

Alan was an inspiration to me personally , in so many different ways. He was a kind and sensitive friend, yet a true professional, highly respected by all of his colleagues and friends in the industry. Alan was truly a member of our company’s family of friends at Western Glove Works and will always be. He taught me the real balance of art, friendship, professionalism and charm and I will always be thankful to have known him. - Posted by: Michael Silver (Friend , Proffesional colleague ) on: Oct 18, 2012

Alan was an old friend of many of the Burgess' in Brandon all those years ago. For many years our parents had a wall hanging on their living room wall that Alan made for them. I remember him designing and building his own couch in one of his first apartments. Very creative and fun-loving guy with a memorable laugh. It's a shock to lose someone so full of life and a reminder to all of us to take nothing and no one for granted. All our thoughts to his extended family and friends. During our time as museum interns at the Manitoba Museum in 1979-80 we occasionally met Alan walking to work after diving practice. It was a good time to chat and enjoy his company. On behalf of Margo Flewelling and Maureen Matthew and myself, Susanne, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family. I hope that Alan's family and museum related family and friends can take comfort by holding close those warm memories of Alan. - Posted by: Susanne Sutherland (museum colleague) on: Oct 18, 2012

To Our Meg & Elle: What can't you say about Al, he was beautiful inside & out. I'll always remember how kind he was, he would always listen to you like you were the only one in the room. He truly loved life & saw it for its beauty not its faults. He was a good friend to my brother Jim & all his friends & family. I see him now up in heaven organizing a 22 mile Run or getting everyone up there in shape while designing a super cool workout gear for everyone. Rest well my friend. We love you. In the relatively short time of knowing Alan he became a close and supportive friend. Being with him was fun, challenging, interesting and very social. A person I (and mutual friends) looked forward to spending time with for many years to come. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Meg and Ellie who have lost someone so dear and with Alan's parents and family. A shame to lose such a great guy.
