DOREEN CLAIRE COPPINGER (TAYLOR)
Date of Passing: Oct 12, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN CLAIRE COPPINGER (nee TAYLOR) Doreen passed peacefully at St. Charles Manor in Victoria, BC on Friday, October 12, 2012. Born in 1925 and raised in British Columbia, mom attended McGee High School, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Work in the banking industry took her to Winnipeg where she met her husband, John (predeceased 1993). Doreen was an active member of the Anglican Church community, serving on the altar guild and as treasurer for many years. As a cancer survivor, she volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society - delivering meals, and driving patients to their appointments. Doreen was also a devoted mother and loving friend. She especially enjoyed the friendships she made while spending countless hours as a hockey mom. When John retired, the two of them returned to the West Coast, settling in Victoria. Doreen and John enjoyed playing bridge, and took many trips abroad - especially enjoying river cruises throughout Europe. After his passing, mom remained active in the community for many years until this became too difficult. Mom leaves behind her son Allan (Ana) of Winnipeg, daughter Sandie of St. Catharines, ON and grandsons Reid, Ben, and Ian. She will be missed. Special thanks to Sue Bryon who was mom's very special friend and caregiver. Her love and compassion gave mom joy and security - especially in the last few years of her life. Cremation has taken place. Mom will rest beside John and her parents at Royal Oak Burial Park. A service was held in Victoria on Thursday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Lakehill Anglican Church. A celebration of her life will take place in Winnipeg during the summer (2013). Mom loved freesias. In her memory we ask that you send a bunch to a special loved one, or in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to a charity of your choice.

My Dad and Mom, Wally and Eileen Pile were good friends of John and Doreen. I remember as a child, visiting your family home in St. Vital. On behalf of my family, our sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. - Posted by: Shirley Pile Babaluk (Family friend) on: Oct 21, 2012

Our Deepest Sympathies. The name Coppinger jumped out at me -- I remember the name from when I was a child and the Coppinger Family used to have family dinners with the Lewis family. I believe your family -- John was with CN at one time. Again our sympathies! - Posted by: Janet Lewis Anderson (Friend) on: Oct 20, 2012
