DARLENE GLADYS ALLEN Darlene Allen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Darlene was born in Roblin on July 21, 1957, to John and Gladys (Arndt) Allen. At the time of her passing she was 55 years old. Darlene graduated from the Roblin Collegiate in 1975. Following high school, she moved to Winnipeg where she obtained two trade related Diplomas from Red River Community College. Her interest in the trades lead to audio visual work with the CBC and the University of Manitoba. She later worked in Boeing and Bristol assembling planes. Darlene was a founding member of Women in Trades, an organization that raised awareness and promoted women's involvement in the trades. She was a strong supporter of women's hockey and was thrilled to attend the Women's World Hockey Championships in Kitchener in 1997 and later in Mississauga. Her favourite female hockey player was Manon Rheaume the first woman to play in a NHL exhibition game. She also loved the Manitoba Moose and they couldn't have found a stronger supporter than Darlene! Darlene also loved the freedom of travelling on her Gold Wing motorcycle. One of her memorable trips was touring through Eastern Canada, to Nova Scotia in 1988. Despite struggling with her medical condition (CREST syndrome), Darlene still enjoyed camping, music festivals and concerts. She seized every opportunity to enjoy life. This summer she was able to go to the Rocking in the Fields Festival at Minnedosa, where the co-ordinators of the event went the extra mile to accommodate Darlene's medical needs. She also enjoyed going to Neudorf, Saskatchewan to have her photo taken with the Stanley Cup and going to the John Fogerty concert in Winnipeg this September. According to Darlene's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family burial was held on Saturday, October 13, 2012. A Celebration of Darlene's Life for her many friends will be held in Winnipeg at a later date. Darlene loved her four legged friends and in honour of her pets Tosh, Lucy, and Ty, donations in memory of Darlene can be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society or your local animal shelter.
