MICHAEL EDWARD BROCK Michael Edward Brock left this world for his next adventure Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the age of 81. He leaves behind his wife, Gail, daughter Catherine and her husband, David Lawson of Burlington, ON, son Jonathan and his wife, Jill of North Vancouver, BC and his four beautiful granddaughters, Hilary, Elizabeth, Maggie and Kate. Also left behind to honour his memory are his siblings Rees, Arthur, Margaret and Peter and their families in British Columbia. Like all of us, he had his faults, but unlike most men, he recognized them, and an even greater rarity, apologized for them. His honesty is a quality that will be missed, but will live on in his children and grandchildren. It would be easy to list his many accomplishments of his professional career as a real estate appraiser in Toronto, but he would prefer to be remembered for the twinkle in his eye, his quick wit, his many friendships and above all, his love of family. He would also want to be remembered as an outdoorsman and athlete. From his early days duck hunting in the Delta Marsh of Lake Manitoba, founding the Leaside Jogging Club, fishing, hiking the Bruce Trail, and his love of cross country skiing, he was always active. Even in his twilight years, when the pulmonary fibrosis began to overcome him, he could be found on the links in Burlington, yet again making new friends. He was that rare person who was content with his position in life and who saw as his greatest legacy that he had raised happy children who adored him. He never once told them what they should do, but rather served as a moral compass, a star in a cloudy sky. One of his favourite expressions of encouragement was "Go out and bite the stars". Now, it's his turn. A Memorial Service in his memory will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Anglican Church, 5324 Bromley Rd., Burlington, ON with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to his memory to St. Elizabeth Anglican Church or the Carpenter Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 www.smithsfh.com
