JACOB WIENS Jacob Wiens passed away peacefully on October 21, 2012 at the age of 96. Jake leaves behind his wife of 65 years; Margaret, son Larrie (Gail); son Leonard (Elaine); daughter Beverly (Robert); son Raymond (Barbara); grandchildren Jason (Jane), Gavin, Darren, Lisa (Corey), Lori (Colin), Kyle (Meaghan), Shauna, Kelsey, great-grandchildren; Avery, Clay and newest member Lawrence. Also one stepgranddaughter Donna (David) and great-granddaughter Hannah. Born and raised on a Winkler homestead he joined the army in 1944 and going overseas near the end and staying for occupation post-war. Coming home he moved to Winnipeg and worked for Acme Chrome. Reuniting with his girlfriend from before the war, Margaret Guenther and marrying on August 9, 1947. Deciding his first love was farming, they bought a small acreage near Carman in the community of Kilmory in 1949, returning to the city during the first two winters before moving out permanently in 1951 until 1973. Selling the farm they returned to Winnipeg living in Fort Richmond and working with various jobs until finally ending up at Floform Ind, till his final retirement at the age of 69. Dad loved working with wood, making a lot of his children's furniture and even his daughter's kitchen cupboards. In his later years he liked making smaller lawn ornaments and was always willing to help his wife with the gardening right up until the age of 93 when they moved to a retirement home. Although dad was ready for the next part of his life he will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his family, one brother John (Sue) and one sister Sara and many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of Jake's life will be held for immediate family and invited guests.
