STELLA BARR (SLIBODA)
Date of Passing: Oct 24, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTELLA BARR (SLIBODA) It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Stella (Sally) Barr, peacefully at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital on October 24, 2012 at the age of 79. Sally will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 60 years, Jim, her children, Keith (Kim), Bruce, Doug and Michelle (Dwayne), her grandchildren, Neil (Carly), Ryann (Ket) and Rick (Tara), great-grandson, Raiden, and her many relatives and friends. Sally was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Tekla Sliboda, and her siblings, Sophie, Willy, Mike, Bill, Olga, Anne, Mary, and Steve. We never grew tired of hearing stories about Mom's growing up in the Point Douglas area and her adventures with Dad's sisters Isabel and Mary. Mom worked at variety of places, including the Winnipeg Canoe Club and Greb Shoes. However she was devoted to taking care of her family. She made the house on Linden a second home to many of her boys' friends. Family gatherings for holidays and birthdays were very important occasions, and this continued when Mom and Dad moved to Teulon in 1983. Visitors were welcomed at any time of the day with platters of food, including Mom's famous perogies, cabbage rolls and butter tarts. She ensured her children and grandchildren always left with generous care packages. Mom enjoyed her quiet time at home, reading and playing cards. Mom and Dad also had time for their gambling trips to various locations. Mom made an impression on those that knew her and she will always be remembered as a truly remarkable lady. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Health Sciences Centre M.I.C.U., Arborg Hospital and Teulon Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Our condolences to you Jim and the entire Barr family. Cec and I have spent many Norris Lake picnics, Baseball Tournaments and many other events together in the Teulon area with the Barrs, great memories. Sally was a great lady and told it as she saw it. That is what we loved about her the most. Our hearts and prayers go out to you all. Cec and Deanna Pringle - Posted by: Cec and Deanna Pringle (Friends) on: Oct 30, 2012

I am saddened to hear of Sally's passing. During my teen years and beyond I was one of those who had a second home at Sally's and Jim's. Sally always made me feel welcome and usually had some words of wisdom for me. Blandine and I express our condolences to the entire family. - Posted by: Ken Chura () on: Oct 29, 2012

Jim & Family...my heartfelt condolences. I met you guys when you moved out to Teulon and immediatley we had a special releationship. Sally was a second and very special Mom to me. We had many cups of coffee (and the odd beer) and she gave me great advice, no matter what we were talking about. I didn't know that she was sick and I never had the chance to visit with her, and I am very sorry for that. I just want to thank Jim & Sally for putting up with me and my 2 very special buddies, visiting with us in the middle of the night. For providing me with the dill pickles and the pickle juice that I loved so much at 3:00 in the morning. Thank you Sally for all the we shared and all that you taught me throughout the years. I said goodbye to my Mom when I was 15 and I am now saying goodbye to my 2nd Mom...Godspeed my friend, I love you and will miss u forever...Shirley Lavallee... - Posted by: Shirley Lavallee (a loving friend) on: Oct 29, 2012

My condolences to the entire Barr family. When I was a young man working at Boyle's store we all knew when Sally was in the store for her weekly grocery shopping. It sure made those Friday night shifts a lot more fun. I didn't get a chance to thank Sally personally for the perogies (best ever) her son Bruce gave me a couple years ago. Thank You Sally, Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Barry & Kathie Aldridge (Family Friend) on: Oct 28, 2012

Mr. Barr (Jim); Keith, Kim & Family; Bruce & family; Doug & Michelle: It is with great sadness that Elaine and I learned of your wife and Mom's passing. We consider her a great friend, and both your mom and dad as our second parents. We adore them and love them both. As a boy, I remember the closeness of our families and the fun we all experienced when our parents got us all together, whether it was snowmobiling, Christmas Eve at my parents or New Year’s Day Feast at your Mom and Dad's. I remember introducing Elaine to your parents and how important it was for me to introduce my future wife to my second parents. Elaine and I last saw your Mom & Dad when we visited the farm on a trip back to Winnipeg. Your Mom & Dad made us feel so comfortable, and we just stepped back into the picture as if we had been away for a week or so, not the years that had actually past. Having lost my parents (Jack & Marj) several years ago, I know that they will be there to welcome your Mom, probably beer in hand. And let the party start!!! We wish we could be with you all to reminisce and remember all the great times we had with you Mom and all of you. Elaine and I send our sincere condolences, our thoughts and prayers are with your all. I remember both Sally and Jim...growing up in the school of hard knocks in north Point Douglas, during the 40's and 50's. Somehow we all made it. Probably because we all shared similar circumstances. In later years, I saw Sally because, they attended the senior's dances in Teulon. The South-glen Fiddlers of Winnipeg played at those dances. It was always a pleasure to sit down with Sally and to exchange and recall the stories and the days of our youth. To: Jim and family...our sincere condolences... - Posted by: Bob Kuzak (Point Douglas neighbour) on: Oct 28, 2012

I am so sorry to hear of Auntie Sally's passing. I always enjoyed our family gatherings, especially when I knew for sure that Auntie Sally would be there. She always livened up any occasion. As much as I will miss her presence now, I rejoice to know that she is finally with her brothers and sisters (including my Mom) again. I smile to think of their reunion and the fact that we will all be together again someday! Our sincere sympathy to Jim and family. We were able to meet Sally through my parents as Sally was their neighbor and good friend. Sally was able to say it as it was and we had many laughs with her. - Posted by: Barb & Brian Larson () on: Oct 27, 2012

Dear Jim and Family Please accept our sympathy on the passing of Sally. She had one unique peronality and was never afraid to tell it like it was. That is what I liked most about her. A great lady and she will be missed. Val & Rick Reykdal - Posted by: Val (Reykdal) on: Oct 25, 2012
