LYNDA MCNIVEN Suddenly, on October 22, 2012, Lynda McNiven, 49 years, beloved mother, daughter and sister. Lynda was born on May 25, 1963 with a very rare heart condition that resulted in one health issue after another during the whole of her 49 years. She suffered through three heart surgeries, emergency brain surgery, and numerous painful medical procedures before she was even 18 years old, and she still kept on smiling. Her unending strength and courage were a constant source of amazement to everyone around her. She touched countless lives by her very existence and by her refusal to give up, even when faced with the most unimaginable odds. No matter how bad things got for her, she refused to be beaten down for long. From the time she was little, her one great wish was to have a child of her own. Her doctors insisted that this would never happen, but they didn't count on Lynda's strong will and fierce determination. She was absolutely ecstatic when she became pregnant, and once again she beat the odds, spending the last three months of her pregnancy in the hospital and being told every day by medical staff that neither she nor her baby would survive. Her son, Christopher, was the absolute light of her life. Lynda was talented in so many ways. She was extremely creative and always had an abundance of wonderful ideas that she wanted to bring to fruition. One of her last projects was setting up a business making hand-crafted jewellery. She was also crazy about animals, especially cats, and she loved being a part of the family pet sitting business. From the time she moved out on her own, she provided a loving home for a total of five cats of her own, as well as several strays that she took in when they had nowhere else to go. After her Dad passed away very suddenly in July 2000, she really became the glue that helped hold her family together. It is completely unthinkable that she is not here with us anymore and our lives will never be the same. Rest in peace, Lynda; you have more than earned your wings! Always loved and forever missed, son Christopher, Mom Carol, big sister Lori, and beloved furbabies Grace and CC. A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 26, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 256 Smith Street, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 9Z9. Dear Carol, Chris and Lori, I was so saddened to hear of Lynda's passing. I'm so sorry. How you must be missing her! I was very touched reading the book Carol had written of her early life. She really had an indomitable spirit and a gentle soul. She was a real lover of animals and I remember what great care she took of my Mom's cats. She also gave great hugs! So big hugs to you all and may you feel courage and support in this difficult time . . . - Posted by: Alison Doerksen (friend) on: Oct 25, 2012

Carol, Lori and Christopher: Please accept my sincere sympathies in your loss of Lynda. Lynda had all the determination in the world to hope and work for the same things we all want in our lives. Carol and Lori - you provided the daily love, support and confidence Lynda needed to make her wishes come true and you provided a family for her to thrive in. Christopher - you were her crowning achievement and ongoing inspiration. With cheerleaders like you on her team, what else could she do, but succeed? You will miss her so much. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. - Posted by: Myrna (Carol's co-worker at HSC) on: Oct 25, 2012
