ELIZABETH (BETTY) LAW (MATTHEWS)
Born: Jan 22, 1935
Date of Passing: Oct 22, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) LAW (nee MATTHEWS) January 22, 1935 - October 22, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mother and grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Law on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Concordia Hospital. Betty leaves to mourn her daughter Marilyn Hosfield (Tom), sister Maureen Eby of Comox, BC, her seven grandsons, as well as many close friends. She was predeceased by her son Robert in 1997 and husband Howard in 2005. Mom was an active member of her community throughout her entire life. She was very involved with the Girl Guides of Canada and remained a dedicated member of Christ Church for many years. Mom truly savoured political debate and it was no surprise that she became a municipal politician, serving multiple terms as an elected councillor for the Village of Dunnottar. Over the years Mom has been a proud member of P.E.O., Khartum Ladies' Auxiliary and last but not least, her favourite organization, Ganderettes. It is the women in Ganderettes who have remained her closest friends throughout the years. Mom was a hard worker and was employed throughout most of her adult life. The one job she enjoyed most was being a school librarian for it provided the perfect outlet for her love of books and great affection for children. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have had such a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Mom's support, affection and generosity were limitless for the people she held dear. She will be so incredibly missed by all who loved her. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has already taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. We extend a special thank you to the staff at Devonshire House II, especially Lena, April and Lynn. Mom thought the world of these ladies and was deeply touched by their kindness and friendship. And to the nurses on the 3rd floor of Concordia Hospital, we offer our heartfelt thanks for their compassion and assistance during a very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may choose to donate to a charity of their choice in Mom's memory.

Marilyn and Family. Following Howard up the ladder to Potentate, we shared a few trips and many fond Memories. We spent a lot of time together on two particular trips - to Boston in 2000 and Denver in 2004. We had tons of fun, lots of laughs. We send sincere sympathy on your profound loss of your Mother/Grandmother. - Posted by: Margaret & Bill McKeigan (Friend) on: Nov 06, 2012

Some of my fondest memories were spent at Aunty Betty's cabin... an old log and some croquet mallets for paddles ... singing old Frank Sinatra tunes... we were little captains on the high seas. She was very involved in the girl guides and I was ecstatic when she took me to girl guide camp for a week. As a councilor, she would take us around Ponemah proudly showing us some of her many projects and accomplishments. She was a warm and special lady.... whom I will really miss. - Posted by: kim skromeda (niece) on: Nov 06, 2012

Marilyn & family. I was deeply saddened with the news of Betty's death. I thought the world of her & can remember many happy fun hours spent at the cottage with Betty & your Dad. They were on the Divan when Tom was the Pote & took many trips, with the last one been the Hawaiian Cruise in 2008. She will be missed. Marilyn, very sad to hear about your Mom. My Mom thought it was so neat that they both found their way to Devonshire House. When I think of your Mom I think of many, many crazy/fun nights I had with them out at the cottage.........one in particular was marching from your cottage to ours banging on pots and singing. The cottage was the site of many amazing memories. Take care and we're thinking of you. - Posted by: Maureen Drohomirecki (nee Bridge) (Family friend) on: Oct 31, 2012
