Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADOLF (ADDIE) MISTELBACHER 1935 - 2012 Suddenly on October 24, 2012, Adolf Mistelbacher passed away at the age of 77. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 56 years, Doreen, sons Lance/Janet, Blair/Rachelle, Todd/Silvie and his awesome grandkids Alyssa, Dane, Brenna, Brady, Luke, Cole, Ty, Ashlee, Nick and Jesse. He leaves behind a sister Christine/Shorty Renaud and brother John/Carol Mistelbacher as well as many extended family and friends. Addie was born July 10, 1935. He was the fifth of seven children born to Karl and Christine Mistelbacher, however he was the first member of the family to be born in Canada. In 1939 the family moved to a larger farm in Prairie Grove, Manitoba. In 1942 tragedy struck the family and his father Karl died - leaving a widow and seven kids. The family persevered through this adversity but this experience is where Dad developed his toughness, work ethic and enormous sense of self-reliance. In 1956 Dad married Doreen Herrebout. In 1958 he purchased his own farm in Prairie Grove near his original family homestead. Dad enjoyed all aspects of farming. He started out with turkeys, hogs, cows and grain but in the late 1960s he found his true passion - cattle feeding. He fed cattle up until his retirement and missed feeding cattle everyday of his retirement. Dad loved his vacations. Family summer vacations were an annual event until the kids grew up and winter vacations took their place. Dad's favourite summer vacations were to the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, Glacier and Colorado. All trips seemed to pass through the Black Hills. His favourite winter destinations were Mexico and Palm Springs. He loved the beach, the heat and the pool. Dad also had a great passion for big game hunting. Memories are too numerous to mention but his moose hunts with Blair and Barry were highlights to him. In his final years Dad had two main hobbies. Watching his grandsons play hockey in the winter and making hay with his grandson Dane in the summer. He was a regular on hockey road trips and always made sure his flask was full to stay warm. Dad never lost his passion to work so in his 70s he partnered with his young grandson, Dane to make hay on the floodway. He always loved to celebrate a good day's work with a steak and a shot of whiskey right to the end. Funeral Service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing commencing at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or a charity of your choice. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Our sincere condolences to you and your family. I have fond memories of being welcomed by Addie and Doreen for wonderful dinners during my university volleyball days. There was always a lot of food, which was a godsend for a starving university student out on his own. I always looked forward to those invites and will always think fondly about those times. Again we are truly sorry and wish you all the best. Sincerely...The Morellis. - Posted by: Marco Morelli, Heidi Holst, and Family (old volleyball teammate and friend of Blair and Lance) on: Oct 31, 2012

I started driving school bus back in 1988 and one of the first buses a spared on was for Addie. He was so incouraging to me and he sure loved those kids on his bus and they loved him. I spared again later on when he hurt his hand and he asked me to hand out some Halloween treats for him. Wow did he spoil those kids and they loved it. I'll miss Addie very much. My deepest sympathy.
