Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • My belated condolences to the Kublanski family. Richard and I were class mates from grades 4-9. Right from the beginning, he was a very gifted skater and hockey player. He did not play in our age group but a year ahead as he was that good. In grade 5, we won the Winnipeg School softball championship. We were in the same classroom from grade 5-7. At the Isaac Newton Junior high school, I was surprised that his band played for us, Weppler on drums, Burega on guitar and Richard guitar and lead singer. His first song I heard him sing was a Ritchie Valens one, Donna. I was very impressed with him. He had a good sense of humour and a certain seriousness about him. In my older age, just wanted to look him up and go over some good times we had. Sorry to see he passed away too early. I had a lot of good memories of him growing up. God Bless, Rest in Peace. - Posted by: colin dederick (school friend) on: Mar 13, 2022

  • I remember Rick as a musician with Bob Parker, as the "village idiots", back in the day. I still have their promo picture. My father Mel Kublanski, introduced me to Rick, and I was impressed by his voice, and talent. Rick had a 45 released called "little one", that I remember as a very young, soon to be musician myself. Rest in peace Rick, you will be missed. Ken Kublanski. - Posted by: Ken Kublanski (Cousin) on: Aug 26, 2013

  • I knew Rick for over 50 years. (I can't believe it was that long) I was best man for their wedding. Rick and I were in several musical "ventures" together, playing bars and lounges. We played in bars "on the road" for 4 years in the middle sixties, made a pile of money and saved virtually nothing; BUT, we had a very good time. I think we each bought a new car. Rick taught himself how to play guitar and piano, and considering he could not read music, did very well with it as a full time and part time musician. He had a passion for building things; all kinds of things. His passion for building homes and additions to homes knew no bounds. As his obituary says " He was happiest with a blue print in his mind, a cigarette in one hand and a rum and coke in the other" was an apt description of his personal passions. He had a gregarious sense of humor and would always be there to help a friend in need. He will be missed. - Posted by: bob parker (friend since 1960) on: Nov 22, 2012

  • I knew Rick for far to long to mention, somewhere back in our teens. I remember him as being a very gregarious, multi talented man who had a penchant for hard work and perfection on his own terms. He played hard and lived as fast as his will to work. I will truly miss him. - Posted by: Fred Turner (Friend) on: Nov 17, 2012

  • I first met Richard at the building on Eveline in Selkirk - we were looking for a lease - it didn't work out but we had a little jam - my wife didn't know what to think! We did a few deals and he always called me back and was professional which are the 2 best things you can say about a realtor!! Sorry to hear he passed. U just saw it today on realtor site - he was a definite character, my sincere condolences - Posted by: George Hacking (Realtor) on: Oct 29, 2012

  • I was hired by Richard to do a few renovations to his plumbing system on his present house. After what turned out to be a small job turned into completely gutting the building and many many months of work and time spent with him, he had always had fond memories of his wife and children and the many construction projects he was involved with over the years. The great joy was when after a few the guitar coming out and old stories of his musition days. Richard may the hammer be put down only to be picked back up by someone to follow - Posted by: Kris sigfusson (Friend) on: Oct 27, 2012

  • Our deepest sympathies. Cousin Richard was so much fun to be around. I remember when he came to visit us on the farm in PlaP. He always teashed me and made me laugh. He always had that little twinkle in his eye. He will be missed. - Posted by: Loraine and Carrie Sulima (Cousin Loraine and Auntie Carrie) on: Oct 27, 2012
