Violet was born on McLeod Island, Cross Lake, MB, to Georgina (nee Anderson) of St. Peters and Louis McLeod of Cross Lake. Violet grew up in St. Peters along the Red River, north of Selkirk and south of Breezy Point, where she attended Peguis School. When not away working, Violet lived her entire life in the Selkirk area. Violet cooked in many a fish and lumber camp along Lake Winnipeg, worked at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre; and worked for over 25 years as a home maker for the Department of Health and Social Services. Violet was an excellent cook, and was very involved in her community, regularly donating her fantastic pies, slices, special bread or bannock for special events and fund raisers at "The Fort", Christ Church; St. Peters Church, the Gordon Howard Society, the Legion, and the Selkirk Friendship Centre. She gave of her time generously and selflessly. Violet was the keeper of our family history, and with the amazing memory she was blessed with, kept us all connected to our pioneer family relationships, and how our family tied into the historic events that led to the formation of Manitoba. Violet was a kind, gentle, generous, caring soul with a heart of gold. We have lost a wise elder who taught us much through her knowledge, her approach to life, her hard work, her focus on what is truly important, and her calm manner no matter what the circumstances. Violet is survived by one son Allan (Linda); grandchildren Scott, Lisa (Daryl), Tara (Jon) Ridge; great-grandchildren Amber, Rachel, Olivia, Abigail, Megan, Michaela, and Nicholas, all from the Toronto area. Violet is also survived by sisters Ida May Boland, Alice Grahame and Betty MacSephney; nieces Jacqueline (Dennis) Maxted and family, and Marilyn (Ken) McCausland and family; nephews Billy (Evelyn) McLeod and family; Lloyd Grahame Jr. and Lawrence Grahame; as well as many other cousins, relatives and friends.
