Doucette, died peacefully at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre. Elaine was born January 1, 1926 at Kergwenan, near St. Rose du Lac, Manitoba to Fred and Elise (Robert) Van Humbeck. Elaine is survived by her loving husband Art, children Lynne (Alan) Wingate, Ray Doucette (Louise Greene), Lucille Doucette (Everett Fee), and Denise Doucette; grandchildren Greg (Lisa) Doucette, David Doucette (Kayla Johansen), Nolan Popow, and Tibor Popow as well as Dana Wingate and her children Kitiara Marek and Carl Hendrickson; Kyle (Nicole) Wingate and their children Dylan and Colin; Nathan Bennett and his daughter Kennedy, Kara Bennett and Madeleine Bennett. She is also survived by her survived by her brothers and sisters and their spouses Adrienne (Marty) Weiten, Marie Smith, Gilbert (Anne), Ed (Terry), and Isabel, and by sisters-in-law Lucille Van Humbeck and Sue Van Humbeck. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, by brothers and sisters and in-laws Aime (Doreen), Sally (Pat) Daggitt, Ray, Frank, and Lionel Smith. Elaine was a wonderful mother and teacher. She started her teaching career after Grade 11 since, in the war years, there was a need for more teachers. She then attended normal school in Winnipeg, graduating in 1946, and taught in Dauphin until she was married. She took a hiatus from teaching to raise her four children and resumed teaching in the early 1960s in the River East School Division where she remained until her retirement. While working full time, as well as caring for her family, she found time to attend both night school and summer school. In 1970-1971 she took a year of sabbatical leave and attained her Bachelor of Education (1971) from the University of Winnipeg. Elaine was a member of St. Alphonsus Church and later Holy Redeemer Parish where she was an active member. She had a long enjoyable retirement during which time she enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, travelling, and also always had time for her grandchildren. Elaine lived her life with a "joie de vivre". Her home, and kitchen, were full of love - whether it was her younger brothers and sisters in earlier years, or friends of her children later on. There was always room for one more at the table. Mom was always supportive of her children in their various interests and endeavours. A special thanks to Lindsey and Mel who visited Mom regularly during her last years. Many thanks to the staff at Kildonan Personal Care Centre for their care and support during Mom's stay with them and especially for their kindness toward both her and the family during her final days. Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 264 Donwood Dr., Winnipeg. Refreshments after service. Elaine's ashes will rest in an indoor columbarium at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.

Your mom had a warmth & charm (& a beautiful smile) that always left me with a smile of my own whenever we bumped into her in the hallways of the care home. Her pleasant ramblings will be missed there. - Posted by: Maureen (daughter of resident at KPCH) on: Oct 31, 2012
