Born: Sep 26, 1920
Date of Passing: Oct 27, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN FRIESEN It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and grandfather John Friesen at the age of 92, at Golden West Centennial Lodge on October 27, 2012. John will be lovingly remembered by his son Alan, his wife Joan, their children Alana and Kevin; daughter Joan Cormie, her children John, Andrea and Julie; daughter Valerie Vandal, her husband John, their children Jordan and Joshua; son Robert Friesen, and brother Ed Friesen. John was predeceased by his wife Margaret; daughter Carol Anne; his parents Abram and Katharina; sister Anna; brothers Abe, Ben and Jake. John was born September 26, 1920 and grew up on the family farm near Horndean, MB. John married his sweetheart Margaret Reimer on February 25, 1945. He was briefly in the Navy and then returned to Winnipeg to train as a carpenter. He spent the majority of his career as a site supervisor for Wallace and Aikens Construction Company. John loved working outside in the garden and on home improvement projects. His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren. Margaret and John travelled and John especially enjoyed the sun destinations. Unfortunately, their travel plans were cut short due to Margaret's Alzheimer's disease. For many years John did a great job as Margaret's primary caregiver until a stroke made that impossible. Many thanks to the nursing staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Funeral service will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing prior to the service. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or call 1-888-473-4636.

Joan and family my sincerest sympathies. I have very fond memories of your Dad. He was such a quick wit, and was very easy to talk to. And kids you bet he was great with them. I remember him picking up my son when he was little and holding him in his lap while Dorian reset his watch for him. He just roared with laughter. - Posted by: Faye Schmidt (Niece) on: Oct 31, 2012
