PETER (PETRO) LUCZENCZYN It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Peter (Petro) Luczenczyn on November 7, 2012. He is survived by his wife Shirley and children Samantha and Andrew; his parents, Tekla and Oleksa; and his siblings Jerry, Maria Patkau (Irwin), and Steve. Peter was born June 12, 1950 in Bradford, England. His family immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1955. He graduated from Tec-Voc High School in 1968 and studied at Red River College before joining the Winnipeg Police Service in 1974. He worked in various units within the Service before joining the Identification Unit in 1985 where he remained until his retirement in April of 2002. He married the love of his life on October 2, 1976. They started their family in 1986, and moved to Oakbank a year later. Peter's joy in life was his family and his children. Throughout his life, he enjoyed an array of hobbies and was a true handyman. He loved being at the cottage in Victoria Beach and spent hours fishing and kayaking. He considered himself to be a practical joker and storyteller. After retirement, Peter started his own business, working in conjunction with Manitoba Public Insurance. He also began teaching a course for Northwest Law Enforcement Academy, and working for CanPro on occasion. In retirement, he found new friends and reconnected with former colleagues who shared common interests. His life was rich with friendship, hobbies, and love. He will be forever missed by his family and the many people whose lives he touched. A celebration of Peter's life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Police Museum. 204-586-8044

  • I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of such a wonderful soul. I had the pleasure of knowing Peter for the past 11 years as a patient here at W. K. Dental. Peter was always such a card, with the never-ending list of jokes that could always put a smile on our faces, whether they were good or bad. Winnipeg, or the world for that matter, has lost one of its finest. Your smile will be dearly missed here, and our deepest sympathies go out to your family and friends. Until we meet again, rest in peace Peter. - Posted by: Laura and the staff from West Kildonan Dental Group (Friend) on: Nov 13, 2012

  • Almost 38 years ago two young men met. It was Nov 12th, the first day of Winnipeg Police recruit class 82. From that day forward Pete became my good friend. He always had a joke or a funny story no matter what the circumstance. Being around Pete just made you feel better. I have many wonderful memories that I will hold dear until we meet again. I will miss him. “Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.” - Posted by: Rick Beazley (Good friend) on: Nov 10, 2012
