Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN HELEN MORRIS (nee LABUIK) With heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Helen Morris on Sunday, November 4, 2012. She will be forever cherished by her husband Tom; children: Jim (Janice), Andy and Wendy; grandchildren: Justin (Jennifer), Jillian (Jace), Jamie and Darcy. Jean was born on November 1, 1928, on Elk Ranch, Manitoba. She was the fifth in a family of 12 born to Andrew and Mary Labuik. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters: Ann White, Pauline Vermette, Elizabeth Asselin, Helen Labuik; brother John Buick; one nephew and one niece. She is survived by sisters: Jessie Kay, Margaret (Mike) Zazula, Lorraine (Tom) Melnyk; brothers: Victor (Ann) Buick, Steve (Bernice) Labuick, Donald (Marion) Labuick; and Tom's brothers Norman (Della), Gilbert (Margaret); as well as, many nieces and nephews. In 1950, she married Thomas Morris. In 1953, they moved to the little white house in Fort Rouge to raise their children and to become Mom and Pop to many children in the area. Their home became the local drop-in centre, filled with love, great food and treasured memories. Jean was active in her children's schools, church and community activities. Her passion was watching her children and especially her grandchildren participate in their sporting events. She loved spending her summers on the front porch of the cottage at Grand Beach being with family, watching the birds and the beach goers. Jean was a self taught seamstress who could sew or make anything. Her Christmas baking was always in demand along with her homemade canned goods: pickles, beets, jams and jellies. She was the queen of removing stains from clothing. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the amazing staffs at Riverview Health Centre 1C and Misericordia Health Centre, Cornish 2, for their compassionate care and support. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Jean's life will be held on Friday, November 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Jean to a charity of one's choice. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO. On April 20th,2016 Mrs Jean Morris at the Churchill High School football banquet received the Lottie Armstrong volunteer award. This award is given in recognition of community service. Jean Morris provided care to countless of students attending school- feeding them, repairing uniforms, providing clothes, sewing clothes, providing lodging and the list of her deeds could go & on - unfortunately Mrs Morris passed away a few years ago, however her family- both nuclear & extended were present. Jean & Tom Morris had three children Wendy( who spoke for family at the banquet), Andy and James. All three- James,Andy & Wendy were as honest as " the day is long". Sincere & genuine. A wonderful tribute to the parents & I know the parents were so proud of them. And " rightly so". Three children who grew into adults & made our society a better society .
