Date of Passing: Nov 09, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL SENENSKY Sam died peacefully on November 9, 2012 two days after celebrating his 100th birthday. He was predeceased by Anne, his loving wife of 58 years, his parents, Dora and Benjamin Senensky, and his four brothers, Murray, Harry, Alex and Ruby. He is survived by his children Jacqui Langdon (Tim) and Barry Senensky (Barbara) as well as his grandchildren Sabrina Guentert (Eugene), Stacey Corden (Jeff), Jason Senensky and Lisa Senensky; great-granddaughter Emma Corden; as well as many nieces and nephews. Sam was a quiet, gentle man with a heart of gold and a witty sense of humour. He loved his family above all and lived his life in constant dedication to them. He wanted nothing more than for his family to be well taken care of, healthy and happy. When his grandchildren were just tots, he began to save for their education and ultimately put all four through university. His grandchildren were a particular source of pride for Sam, and he would beam when they would come to visit. Sam worked hard all of his life. He served his country in the Second World War, then worked as a bookkeeper and ultimately worked for the Federal government in the department of Energy Mines and Resources until his retirement in 1977. He loved to curl, play bridge, socialize with friends and family and travel with Anne to Palm Springs in the Winter. He had an avid interest in politics and in the stock market and loved to engage in a good debate. Sam loved to commemorate special occasions with a poem, and he wrote albums full of them over the years. Sam and Anne lived many years at 55 Nassau and then for five years at Amber Meadow Retirement Home where they made friends and enjoyed many social activities. Sam lived the last three and a half years at the Maples Personal Care Home, where he was liked by all of the staff. His three companions while there were Myrna Dimawala, Tess Amiller and Chris Monroy. The three of them treated Sam with much loving kindness and the family is eternally grateful to them. Funeral services were held at Congregation Etz Chayim on Monday, November 12, with Rabbi Larry Lander officiating. Pallbearers were Jason Senensky, Tim Langdon, Avrum Senensky, David Senensky, Josh Senensky and Larry Hochman.
