BARBARA RUTH GRANT (nee CORMIER) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Ruth after a brief illness. She began her journey in this world on September 6, 1938 in Amherst, NS and passed away in Winnipeg, MB on November 9, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Ruth will live forever in the hearts of her children: daughters, Kelly Hunter and Judy Recksiedler (Garth); sons, Rob Grant (Carol) and Chris Grant (Barbara); as well as nine grandchildren, Ryan Turner, Mark Turner (Ashley), Kayla Klos (Jason), Lindsay Grant (Sean), Haleigh Grant (Mike), Rebecca Grant, Emily and Jacob Grant, and Jillian Recksiedler; five great-grandchildren, Emma and Hannah, Benjamin and Zachary, and Mason. She also leaves to mourn her brother Bruce Cormier as well as her aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents Rudy and Pearl Cormier. The family would like to thank the staff at GH4 Health Sciences Centre for their compassion when taking care of our Mom. We also would like to thank all of our many friends and family members for their prayers and well wishes during this difficult time in our lives. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choosing in Ruth's name. Ruth touched many people along her journey with her zest for life, love for people and faith in God. A Service to celebrate the life of Ruth will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012 with Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. For those who wish, there will be a visitation/viewing Thursday, November 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Blessings on you for every beautiful deed and every beautiful happening in your life. We all love you and we journey with you as far as we can. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I am shocked at hearing about Ruthie passing away. She was one of the best people I have ever known. My sympathy goes out to the family. She will always have a special place in my heart, and also with my mother (Shirley) in Nova Scotia, and with my brother Kim (Fenwick, N.S.) She will be sadly missed by all. - Posted by: Brian Wheaton (Robert Mcdonald nephew) from saskatoon (2nd cousin) on: Nov 22, 2012

  • Dear Grant Family Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother. My mom and yours were great friends and that friendship lasted many years starting at CFB Rivers Manitoba. They had great times together and one memory that has been talked about for years is when they painted a white line down the center of the shared driveway on the base. They grabbed their coffee cups and sat on their respected sides to get a reaction from the neighbours and people driving by. They succeeded. They laughed about that for years. When your family moved away, my mom was so saddened to have lost the closeness of Ruth, but they always stayed in contact with their letter writing. If my own mother was with us today, she would be there to hug you all. Blessings to all of you. Marg Donohue Watson - Posted by: Marg Donohue Watson (Past neighbour and friend) on: Nov 15, 2012

  • Of all the people I have met while growing up, Ruth was always a special woman, I call a Proverbs 31 woman. Her life was evident of her love for family and friends. I will never forget Ruth and our Mom painting a white line down the driveway and then having coffee sitting on either side of the line (since all the neighbours were fighting they wanted to give them all something to talk about) and the line did turn heads. Going to miss communicating with Ruth. - Posted by: Charlotte Mills (Daughter of Peggy Donohue (friend of Ruth)) on: Nov 14, 2012
